Since the New Year (or around Christmas), Matt Perrault's blog at Matt Perrault no longer accepts any comments, and the public forums at Big Sports 590 (Big Sports 590, KXSP-AM Omaha, Nebraska > Home) are gone.

Now, I understand that the forums there just seemed to be a bash fest amongst the posters, but has anybody heard why Matt disabled comments on his blog? He always said that Journal Broadcasting never had any control over his blog. Was it a personal decision?

Just curious. Normally changes like this means something else is going to happen around BS590 that they don't want want to monitor opinions about, or is this just a change to focus more on the radio content, rather than the web?

Both actions (no comments on the blog, and the removal of the BS590 forums) seemed to have happened on or about the same time.

i talked to matt the other day and he told me that the forum was cancelled for the bashing dave mentioned. i am taking him food today and will ask about the blog comments.

That's the problem with blogs....you can post just about anything on them....need thick skin so they just bounce off...after all....weirdos and psychos can use computers too...

OK, to me, it seems like there are a few things wrong with this explanation.

"Us" as in Matt and Journal Broadcasting? Matt has always tried to keep the blog "his", and has even said in past comments about how upper management has no say in what he provides on his blog, and what the direction is of it.

I agree that the forums were out of control, but as I remember, Matt was pretty quick about removing comments on his blog that were either offensive, stupid, or maybe he didn't like. Maybe they didn't want to have somebody monitor the forums 24x7 and remove all the nasty stuff, like Matt does on his blog. Of course, they got rid of their ORIGINAL forums because of that reason (all the bashing and gnashing of teeth), and then they brought them back, so I don't know what kind of changes they had planned to circumvent that behavior.

This comment is just silly, and I certainly hope Matt himself didn't dream up this excuse. You can't be scared of what some parents say about your radio station and site when you have a "Babe of the Day" listed on the main Big Sports 590 site, and have contests revolving around the hottest news reporter on television. Matt even lists some Playboy playmates as his "top friends" on his Big Show MySpace page, and the selected music on the page has some "potty mouth" language in it! Maybe BS590 is trying to get the Radio Disney demographic now.

Also, Matt has posted a lot of Not Safe For Work items and videos on his blog in the past that could certainly be labeled more offensive then somebody calling Matt "an idiot" on his blog. I'd love to see the email from some "parent" complaining about the content on the BS590 forums or Matt's Blog.

So any page that links to a Journal owned page has to face the wrath of Journal upper management? Except for the tntradioempire.com site, which gets a free pass, although both shows and sites strive for the same demographic.

It's obvious Journal Broadcasting has reverted to its pre-2008 attitude on a web presence, because every action they take limits the number of visitors to the sites its owned. I don't think they'll ever stream Big Sports 590, as big a signal as it is, and claiming to reach 8 states.

Although Journal might save some money on bandwidth since less people will be visiting bigsports590.com, I wonder if the advertisers get a discounted rate on the lower monthly page views being served to visitors?

Crazy stuff, just crazy.
