The article talks about how the Mavericks and Lancers aren't really that happy about it. Why WOULDN'T the competition be happy?

Stupid World Herald. And aren't the Lancers a Council Bluffs team now, since that's where they play? Do they still call themselves the River City Lancers?

The Omaha hockey market might have shrunk Tuesday, but UNO coach Mike Kemp wasn't rejoicing at news of a rival being eliminated.

Kemp even called the Ak-Sar-Ben Knights' planned departure "a sad thing."

"Quite honestly, from my standpoint, it's a little disappointing," Kemp said. "We're in a situation here where hockey in the market is a good thing. While we were kind of splitting the fan base three different ways - which obviously impacts everybody - any hockey here or anything to grow the game was a positive."

Both the UNO Mavericks and Omaha Lancers stand to benefit from the Knights' expected relocation to the Quad Cities area. For the past two hockey seasons, the three teams combined for nearly 100 home dates - tugging at a local fan base that ultimately might not have been big enough to handle all three.

They were the River City Lancers, but it didn't stick, so they are Omaha again.

So they're the Omaha Lancers, but they play in Iowa.

I don't think the Knights were their problem, I think it was a case of Bad Idea Jeans
