(Omaha, NE) -- Yesterday's College World Series game between the UC Irvine Anteaters and Cal State Fullerton Titans set a new record by being the longest game in the series' history.

The five-hour, 40-minute marathon ended with a run-scoring single from Bryan Peterson in the bottom of the 13th inning. The lengthy contest beat the previous record of five hours, set in 1981 when Oklahoma State defeated Arizona State, also after 13 innings.

Cal State is now eliminated from the series, with the Anteaters advancing to take on Arizona State in today's second game, starting at 6:00 this evening.

The UC Irvine Anteaters won in their final at-bat for the third time in four games on Tuesday night, knocking off Arizona State 8-7 in 10 innings in an elimination game at the College World Series.
UC Irvine became the first team in the CWS' 61-year history to win extra-inning games on consecutive days. They beat Cal State Fullerton 5-4 in 13 innings on Monday in a 5-hour, 40-minute game, the longest in CWS history.
