Aerosmith Go Crazy For 'Guitar Hero'

How do you follow-up the best-selling video game of 2007? If you're Activision, makers of the Guitar Hero series, the choice is clear: call Aerosmith. The Rock And Roll Hall Of Famers will star in this summer's Guitar Hero: Aerosmith, the first installment of the billion-dollar franchise to focus on one act's body of work. The game will reportedly take players through Aerosmith's first gig to their current status as arena-rock nobility, and will allow fans to "play" songs from the group's massive back catalogue of hits, as well as songs from artists Aerosmith has toured with or been influenced by. There is no word yet on exactly what songs fan can play, but anyone who's been near a radio or MTV during the past few decades can probably accurately guess the final tracklist. Hero will be developed by Neversoft Entertainment for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation3, and by Vicarious Visions for the Wii.

To celebrate the upcoming release, from February 16-18, fans will be able to download and play Aerosmith's classic single "Dream On" on Guitar Hero III: Legends Of Rock.

this almost makes me want to get GHIII--very interesting, and I sort of hope they seek a few more bands (Van Halen, for instance) to do something similar

Re: Aerosmith Go Crazy For 'Guitar Hero'

The last time Aerosmith came through Omaha's arena was with KISS, right?

Having any sizable collection of KISS tunes attached with this Aerosmith-ified GHIII would be orgasmic for me and maybe Al (who's been absent for too long from the forums)

Re: Aerosmith Go Crazy For 'Guitar Hero'

Rock Band has 1 or 2 KISS songs on it already I believe, and I think they are some obscure ones.

EDIT: Actuallly, "Calling Dr. Love" is an add on...
http://youtube.com/watch?v=9NsceP4w8Fg

and Detroit Rock City is included in the standard package...
YouTube - Rock Band: KISS - Detroit Rock City (Band Tour)

Re: Aerosmith Go Crazy For 'Guitar Hero'

GHII had "Strutter" by KISS, as well. With the collection of KISS albums in my family's possession, "obscure KISS song" is a phrase that is almost non-existent

Thanks for the video, but Gene's replacement (the bassist) looks like he needs a bit more practice

Re: Aerosmith Go Crazy For 'Guitar Hero'

This opens up a huge market for band-specific titles...

I vote for Guitar Hero: Def Leppard with an homage to the late great Steve Clark.

How about a Guitar Hero that uses real strings instead of a flapper that goes up and down?

Re: Aerosmith Go Crazy For 'Guitar Hero'

I kind of agree with Bud. The main reason why I haven't pulled the trigger on either a GH game or Rock Band is because it is moderately expensive for my frugal mind to pull the trigger on (of course, if $100 KISS tickets miraculously go on sale tomorrow I'll consider 'em )

Hell, you could almost take the time and money spent on these sorts of games and buy a crappy electric guitar and an amp and learn. Like Stan's dad on the South Park episode was telling the children, playing these great riffs on a real guitar would be, to me, a greater thrill.

The games look awesome though, and there is no doubt why--I am only curious to see what GH and RB do in the future. A Beatles-only game would be amazing, but I'm sure it is not legally possible

Yeah, you're right. Maybe a release by Ace Freehley on a solo album could be considered an obscure KISS song.

Re: Aerosmith Go Crazy For 'Guitar Hero'

I've got his first solo album, and one live one of his Frehley's Comet albums

Also picked up Gene's A**hole album and Paul's Live to Win when it came out last year

And KISSology, Vols. I-III

Of all the rock CDs we have, I think we have more KISS than the rest of 'em.

I think we're freaks

I already know which is richer, but isn't KISS geek cooler than coin geek?

But seriously, I think we are geeks. I think my brother, father and I saw them no less than six times in concert since the beginning of their reunion tour. All great shows. I am curious as to the band's future, since Gene and Paul aren't getting any younger

Re: Aerosmith Go Crazy For 'Guitar Hero'

A tad off-topic (okay, completely off-topic, but it does involve Rock Band)

I was wandering the vast videos of Youtube and saw this and felt compelled to share the link. I'm pretty sure a certain TnTU drummer is going to be sexually aroused by this, although the performer concedes it was not his best effort.

Nonetheless, enjoy the greatness that is the Who:

YouTube - Won't Get Fooled Again (Rock Band Expert Drums 5 Stars)

I could see a Who-based interactive music game

Re: Aerosmith Go Crazy For 'Guitar Hero'

3 cameras to film you drum a Rock Star song? That's crazy!

I appreciate that they included the whole song, and not the radio edit.

Re: Aerosmith Go Crazy For 'Guitar Hero'

I'd have to say that took some time to master...thanks for the link KD! I'm not aroused but I am impressed.

I happen to be in Best Buy some time ago and tried the drums for Rock Band. I have to say they are pretty close as far as feel and responsiveness to real drums but obviously not the same.

I taught myself on an old 4-piece Ludwig set with no bottom heads...playing on a real kit with a band is a far cry from playing Rock Band but it still takes a sense of rhythm.

When playing live on stage, it's more about feeling and reaction. When playing anything like Guitar Hero, it's all visual response to the notes coming your way on the screen.

From what I've heard regarding Rock Band drums. To "get serious" about your rocking out on rock band, you should buy some replacement heads for the drums to protect them and to quiet them down. There is also a stronger metal bass drum kick you can buy that is sturdier and has a better feel than the stock one.
