| Heavy Metal Returning To Big Screen Heavy Metal, the 1970s sci-fi fantasy magazine and subsequent 1981 movie, is returning to the big screen again. Fight Club's David Fincher is spearheading the animated film which will feature eight or nine individual animated segments, each of which will be directed by a different person, similar to Animatrix. While the return of Heavy Metal could be prone to utter destruction in anyone else's hands, the fact that the visionary filmmaker David Fincher is the one spearheading the entire project actually means this could become something very unique. Confirmed directors creating segments so far include: David Fincher, "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" co-creator and Heavy Metal owner Kevin Eastman, and Blur Studios' Tim Miller. Remaining directors have yet to be announced. The film is already being referred to as an R-rated, adult-themed feature. The segments will, of course, be inspired by the erotic and violent storylines and images found in the magazine. The aforementioned Blur Studios is also handling all of the animation, which means the visual style most likely will be similar across all of the segments. This definitely sounds like a project that will turn out fairly awesome. I'm excited to see how this comes together and learn what stories Fincher and company choose to adapt. I'm wondering who else would be a good fit as a director: Henry Selick, Ridley Scott, Alfonso Cuarón, Richard Kelly, or even Steven Spielberg? Who would be your dream choices for the six remaining segments? | Re: Heavy Metal Returning To Big Screen Very, VERY!!!! Cult, Ob1.... I have almost all the mags and a few super mags in my collection... BUT, only after I found out about the movie.... Heavy Metal tied in very nicely with my obsession for D&D/AD&D and fantasy art... Made my way through art class drawing & painting this stuff... I still have the invitations to three art schools, one in New York, to take place in their art programs... Just couldn't come up with the funds.... I will always wonder "what if"?
