| Soap Box OK, I made this so that politics had a place in TNTU and wouldn't leak into other threads. You can bash bush, because that has become the new fad (see Kanye West and every other celebrity) Or talk about all the publicity that Ms. Sheehan is getting for her protest and NOT her son **who volunteered and served with pride**. I miss the days with Clinton. If he could run again, I would vote for him. Everyone thought he was such a devil when he got a hummer, but if that is all people can hang over his head, then so be it. Personally I don't get caught up in the Bush Bashing because it solves nothing. The fact is that this country voted him in TWICE! So we can't blame anyone but the mirror. I will say that I would rather have the president hiding cigars then dealing with 9/11, Iraq, Oil crisis, Katrina, and who knows what else. I guess hindsight is 20/20 so I can't argue, I just wish people would help their own cause instead of pointing fingers. ***Steps down from soap box*** Where's my XBOX controller? | Re:Soap Box *passes XBOX controller back to teamriot38* Great thread to start. I don't see any point in 'Bush Bashing' or any other sort of blamming right now. Every political orginazation is trying to figure out who's fault is the Hurricane tragedy. How about we save these people now and point fingers later? Yes, Bush is a conservative freak (banning gay marriage, banning stem cell research, 'intelligent design', using religion to make political desicions, etc) but people are dying on the Gulf Coast. I hope this thread is used to open peoples minds and to have civil and intelligent discussions about our country and world. *Steps off soap box, chugs a beer and takes a drag off a cigarette* Post edited by: mmm, at: 2005/09/07 18:31

| Re:Soap Box I would like Dave or 3M to change the name of this thread to 'Soap Box'. If anyone feels worthy of Stepping up on my Soap Box (or diving in boo's soap box I don't want any negative responses because it will just turn into a bigsports590 thread where everyone says 'i hate you' you can either agree with someone's preaching or click on another thread. | Re:Soap Box I won't jump on a soap box.Just one point all need to realize. As ex military,I am not a Bush lover or hater,I served under Bush and Clinton. When it comes to the hurricane, the National Guard not being called in is not his fault. By nation rule, the governor of that state has to request the help before they can be sent.So blame Gov. Blanco,I believe she dropped the ball more than Bush.B) Post edited by: mmm, at: 2005/09/07 18:32

| [Insert Inside Joke Here] ![]() | Re:Soap Box That is true Mike...but Bush (and Cheney) could have took vacation off early to get down to New Orleans and be the figureheads that bring hope. That was wrong of them not to, it was wrong of Bush to speak in California about World War II while bodies were floating in New Orleans. I certainly don't bash Bush (much anyway), I bash the Republican administration all together. Also, Kanye West sucks. Post edited by: mmm, at: 2005/09/07 18:33

Since I'm fairly new here, I really can't say anything about this topic, other than this will probably be my only post in it. I've learned that there are two things you don't discuss - at least not rationally - politics and religion. The discussion eventually degenrates into name calling once tempers flare. | Re:Soap Box In New Orleans the government failed at ALL levels from the mayor, to the governor, to the president. There should have been more done in advance and more done quickly after the hurricane hit. The government - as a whole - keeps telling us we are prepared for a terrorist attack, yet we wait 6 days to help people who are dying in New Orleans. It was more than one group who dropped the ball here. Let me commend the people who are donating money, supplies, time, and energy. But where are the drug companies? The companies who make billions of dollars off sick people - why are they not here donating money and medicines - Oh wait they are making money off this... Post edited by: mmm, at: 2005/09/07 18:34 |

| [Insert Inside Joke Here] ![]() | Re:Soap Box I think Bush screwed up. He could have been down there in New Orleans fast, helping the poor, being a sign of hope. Now with the attention off of Iraq, his approval ratings, etc. He could have been put on his 'compassionate' face, been that loved president he was again after 9/11 but his late response to the tragedy has already ruined that. His approval ratings are just going to sink lower and lower. I know it's a terrible thing that happened to the area, but I just wanted to speak about it politically, it's going to hurt Bush, no question.

| [Insert Inside Joke Here] ![]() | Re:Soap Box I don't know Mike...Hurricane Katrina has already made him dip into the 30's, which is pretty sad. He really screwed up big time here, but things (no matter how tragic they are) happen. I love the Clinton bashing though...you guys are right. Things right now are a trillion times better than they were with Clinton. Remember the days with Clinton? The bombs...the blood...the war...the deficit...the freakishly high unemployment rates...etc. Oh wait...whoa, sorry. I got swept into the 'reverse world' portal there for a second. ;-)

| [Insert Inside Joke Here] ![]() | Re:Soap Box You know, 'centrist' or 'moderate' really doesn't exist I think. Think of it in terms of Todd and Tyler (this IS a TnT fansite). Todd and Tyler claim to be 'radical centrists' when that couldn't be further from the truth. They're completely liberal guys and shouldn't be afraid to admit it. They're just helping 'liberal' remain a bad word amongst conservatives. Also, nobody can truly be a moderate (centrist)...you lean left or right, it's just how it is. If you're pro gay rights and pro choice you're a liberal. If you're anti gay rights and anti-choice (pro-life, ha), you're a conservative. Let's face it...there is no 'middle', especially anymore. That's why NOTHING in this country gets done, because people have opposing opinions and are certainly not going to become a bitch for the other party and accept their ideals blindly.
