Why is it that the press is not allowed to take photos of the dead in New Orleans? Maybe for the same reason they were not allowed to take photos of the coffins of the soldiers coming home from Iraq. Please understand I know the photos are graphic and depressing and I don't want it flooding the news. However that is not the reason the U.S. government has told the media not to take photos of the dead - Show some of the photos and watch Bush's approval rating go into the single digits - lesson learned from Vietnam. The photos I did see made me angry and upset - the whole government failed and people lost their lives.

Intresting Fact - when the gornment wanted to rally Americans to go to Iraq we saw 100's of photos of the dead from 9-11 for weeks.

AcuraChic - Thanks for the link..

I would like to say that if you want to donate money to the flood victims - please use a reputable source like the salvation army or a group you are comfortable with - there are way to many websites that claim to be taking money for the people of New Orleans that give little to no money to the people.

Just to add to M's post.Definitely,if you are to give,give to the Salvation Army,not the Red Cross.Sounds like the only help they are getting is from the Army.B)

On CNN they stated that they took the federal government to court to be able to take photos of the dead. CNN won the court case and is able to photo the recovery of the dead. So they took their cameras and went back into New Orleans only to be told by the military that they couldn't photograph any of the dead bodies. Then the military made a wall with vechiles and people that stood between the journalist and the bodies. Apparently the pentagon finally had a talk with the military and told them to allow CNN to photograph anything, but CNN has not yet been able to do so. Hmmm... Government not giving us freedom of the press... what is next....

M,I tell you what.I don't want to see dead bodies that damn bad.If you do,you got one morbid sense of humor.Why take their picture?Their dead,leave them alone.B)

No I don't want to see the dead bodies and I am actual a pissed at you that you would think that I get a laugh out of seeing them.
See you just missed the whole point - the government taking away the first Amendment - Freedom of Religion, Press, Expression. The Constitution protects our rights, we let them take them away once then they will do it again, and again. It would open a whole can of
worms.

Nobody wants to see dead people, let alone pictures of dead people...but sometimes I simply think we should. It helps us truly know the situation. Like in New Orleans...there are plenty of very ignorant, sheltered people who have no clue how serious this is. Show 'em a picture of a floating eight year old...yeah...that'll set 'em straight. I think sometimes it takes photographic evidence to let people know how bad something is. Look at all the footage of 9/11...all the crying and panicing spectators.
