Depending on the type of person you are, and how often you visit these forums, you way want to receive an instant, daily, or weekly email when a topic that you have interest in gets updated.

You can "subscribe" to threads or forums, and then get email updates from time to time on what's been added, updated, or posted.

To try them out, first, visit your User CP and click on Edit Options. Choose what type of subscription notification you want under "Default Thread Subscription Mode".. Either "No email notification", "Instant Email Notification", "Daily Email Notification", "Weekly Email Notification". Note: If you visit the forums frequently, you may not want any email notification, so you may want to just turn off email notifications. Then click Save Changes at the bottom of the page.

Now, whenever you reply to a topic, or start a new topic, you'll be "subscribed" to that topic, and will receive email notifications when new posts are created in that thread.

If you click on "Quick Links" at the top of the page and choose "Subscribed Threads", you can see a list of thread you've subscribed to, and remove any subscriptions you don't want any more, or organize your subscriptions into folders. You can also change your email notification on different items. Maybe you want an "Greatest Band Names" update once a week, or daily, but you want an instant email notification when somebody responds to your post in "Action 3 News".

You can also subscribe to complete forums if you like. To do this, go into the forum category you're interested in, such as "New Member Introductions", then toward the top of the page, click on "Forum Tools", and choose "Subscribe to this forum", then choose what type of notification email you want.

Some people like to get emails when topics are updated, some people like to visit the forums frequently to get their information. Depending on the type of person and lifestyle you have, you can choose how you want this information sent to your beady little eyes.

Yeah, I don't use subscriptions, but if you want a "reader's digest" once a week of what's happening here, you can subscribe to the threads you like, and get them in email.

That's the shorter story.
