OK so what is a Redneck? Is it bad is it good, is it both? Define it, say funny stuff about it, and tell me what you think it is!

Randomosity is a word one of my students uses all the time, and it deals with anything that is just a random bit of info that pops into your head. I get them all the time, and want to post them, but don't, cuz they don't fit just anywhere.

Let's see how this goes...holding my breath.

I don't really know how to answer the redneck thing, but as for randomosity, I'm all over that. Things are constantly popping into me.

I never really gave it much thought, but Wikipedia gives a rather in-depth look at the meaning of the word.

They say their is a difference between redneck and hillbilly or hick. I would have put all those together. I guess I associate most stereotypes of the term with Jeff Foxworthy popularizing the term many years ago with his "You might be redneck if...".

I make fun of my friend and his fiance and call them rednecks because 1) they like Nascar (Neckcar); 2) like to go fishing; 3) he likes to go hunting. We all as friends make fun of them and say they are go to watch a race on their redneck honeymoon. My wife and I also bought them a gift we found at Fremont days it was Redneck Wind chimes, a board with some beer cans attached by wire. They thought it was hilarious, and we all laughed about it.

Well, if you think about it toilet paper would have probably started out 1-ply. If you can try to imagine what they did before toilet paper (yuck!) Then yes, they probably really were doing the world a favor. Why they keep making 1-ply is beyond me?

I am going to have to say Redneck = bad.

Top Ten things that come to my mind when I think redneck..............

10. Plastic lawn furniture in the middle of winter
9. Beer windchimes! =)
8. Cars with no wheels on them for longer than a week
7. 100 lb. bags of Ol Roy dog food from SAMS club
6. A mouth full of tooth (yes, tooth, singular)
5. A cupboard full of hormel chilli. And that's it.
4. Your cousin is also your mother
3. You don't see anything wrong with a family tree that does not branch
2. You did not graduate from pre-school
1. NASCAR

Its hard to actually define 'redneck'. I have come to the conclusion that there are many types of rednecks...Me included:) There are book-smart,street-smart , closet rednecks . No matter how you stack it , we live in an area with a large redneck population. Not that its a bad thing. Its how we conduct ourselves in social situations and how we live . You may not be aware that you're a redneck . If you are..thats OK too . I suppose we could contact Donnie Dodge on this topic :)..I'm off to listen to 'Redneck Friend' by Jackson Browne !

From my perspective, a 'redneck' is a general reference to anyone that has a noticeable lack of complexity which can be exaggerated. I don't mean this in a negative sense, but as a positive nod toward simplicity.

And with regard to randomosity, I like the idea of a thread that is full of random brain droppings and total free associative thought.
