Coupla questions for yous guys, and really let me know how you feel about these things....

1) Do you think links to "not safe for work" stuff should go to a separate "underground" forum that only registered members can see? If you're not signed in, you wouldn't see the forum, if you were signed in, you'd be able to read/post/reply to it.

The reason I asked is because Google is indexing more of the tntu.net pages, and a lot of the pages that are being indexed are showing up as "naked celebrity" or some kind of porn related link, which really isn't what TnTU's about, of course. If we restrict viewing the "NSFW" category to just registered members, then the spiders (google, yahoo, etc) won't pick those up.

I just want to make sure tntu.net is available to the majority of people, and not have it labeled "porn" to businesses.

2) Signatures... more people have larger images in their signatures. I'm used to them, but got a few emails the last couple of days from people thinking that signatures were broken because the images were getting too big.

Do you think we need rules on signatures or avatars

Just questions to feed you for today. Just a discussion, I'm all jacked up on the new Diet Dew this morning, and thought I'd get chatty.

dave, i think restricting the NSFW threads is a good idea. we don't want people to think we are a bunch of pervs.

seriosly i would restict them.

as far as the sig. avatars i really like saome of the new ones.

Slightly off topic, here's a recent graph of the search engine performance tntu's been receiving.

Ignore the downward spike the last few days, that was an anomoly due to a bug in some of the XML. Eventually, it'll get back to normal.

This represents that there were about 12,000 pages of tntu.net referenced/indexed by (mostly) google, but other search engines are included here. That number should eventually go up once the bug in the xml is cleaned up.

I totally agree with number 1.

As for number 2 I do not think the signatures have gotten out of hand, but I'm not opposed to any rules being set there either. So I say call it as you see it.

The numbers going up help with google, but its the content of the pages that get people here.

So it depends on what people we want. We're going pretty good with people trying to find "todd and tyler" or "tntunauthorized". But we do pretty good with people trying to find Jennifer Aniston pictures too!

Google tries to index all the pages it can find, so (and I don't know the numbers), if todd and tyler are 50% of the pages, and 50% is all the other stuff, then do you want the "other" 50% type of people showing up.

Not saying its a bad thing, we're a welcoming bunch, but just wanted to talk about it, because.. you know... deep down, I'm a really good listener!

We are your followers. We believe whatever you tell us. We don't want non-TNT pervs running around this site. There are enough pervs already here.

Since I work on my own, and I own the laptop, I am not affected by #1. However, it may really affect teacher and lynnie on their school issued computers. Do you want them to not be allowed in here?

As for the geek graph thing that you posted, "interesting, very interesting". (still scratching head wondering what it meant)

Number one, I would definitely agree.

Nobody wants to search for something on the net related to TNTU and have google throw back a related topic of some NSFW thread. It makes the site look bad.

Spiders of course can not login to the site before crawling, so making a forum that is hidden to non logged in users would block it from being indexed.

I also agree with not only the "underground" stuff in there, but also maybe other things like a for sale section, etc. I have seen other message boards setup with some really crude or otherwise not acceptable messages posted into forums that could be indexed and it is just not a good thing at all.

Anyways.........back on topic......the signature thing is really a call for the person setting it up. Nobody wants to see a really huge image at the bottom of every post for a certain user, it makes message boards looked cluttered IMO. A size restriction would be a good call.

Just my 2 cents on these topics though. The newbie is speaking up

I really don't think I could make it through a day with puberty, angst-ridden teens if I can't have my new-found fix. Especially since they won't let me smoke in class anymore.

I know for certain that the OPS filter will block us if there is "porn", "nudity", "blogs", "chat", "message boards", blah, blah, blah, anywhere in the (oh god, what is it called...tagline?) I flunked NerdComputer 101. Hopefully, you know what I mean.

I like most everyone else am all for doing whatever it takes to keep this site avail. for when we have a few extra free moments at work. The jokes, funny remarks, and slingo solitare have made a few of my tough days fly by! I would hate to not be able to harrass Teachergirl and Lynnie on a daily basis too. Please do what it takes. We can all look up the porn links with teachergirl at home on our own time!!!!!
As for the signatures and the avatars.... it makes no diff to me.... just make sure everyone uses common sense

I agree we don't need any pervs who aren't interested in the site or Todd and Tyler.
