my mom just called me there is a squirrel in basement

she wants me to come get it out I can't catch a squirrel

...what should I do?

how in the hell did it get in there

Call MarkKOmaha29 from here, he is the one that helped Todd with the raccoon in his chimney quite a while ago. I think it might have been Critter Control.

Do you have a dog?

Let a dog down into the basement, I'm pretty sure the squirrel will be out in no time.

That is, unless it's hiding in some nook or cranny somewhere. Then I suppose you could bribe it out with some food.

I called the Humane Society but I'm sure squirrel's in the basement is not a priority....I'm going over there when I get of work...Oh my God...what if it bites me?..I gotta do something my mom is 78 years old..I told her to shut the door til I get there...for crissakes...I'll wack it with something...yuck

Apparently he hasn't been on since he joined, but his profile does show that he works for Critter Control. Don't know how much that would cost.

Wear gloves if you have to handle it after its dead
a racket (tennis RQ ball) something like that works well if you are trying to "whack it"
Look for an open window that it might have came in

thanks for the advice..should I wear goggles and flippers too...believe me this squirrel is gonna scare me once and I'm out... I have my old tennis racket from high school..yeah prolly still in my old bedroom....

..humane society said they couldn't do anything about it.... to set a trap

I called critter control (markomaha29) very nice people gave me some advice on what to do

There are 2 types of Squirrels. The Urban Squirrel is quick ..fast moving ...and usually looking for food..thin in appearance. Might be tough to trap this squirrel. On the other hand there is the Country Squirrel. Heavy in appearance...plenty to eat ..(thanks to the backyard feeders and to the owners who keep the backyard feeders stocked )..A slower moving 'marmit'.. I mean squirrel. 'Catchable' ..Hope that helps .

Daph,
I found out that the traps that use for cats won't work for squirrels. However Honeyman Rental has small traps that will work for you can rent them for $7.50 for two days. If you pick it up after 4pm today you can keep it until Monday. The store on 84th and I has them in stock -their number is 331-6013
