Actually one of my administrator's husbands works for some company that deals with CWS, and I guess the people in charge of the College World Series were P.O'd yesterday! So he has been dealing with that. I know they are looking at breaking the contract, but they aren't sure what will happen legally.

I just knew once the national media go ahold of that it's going to make Nebraska look like the state is full of idiots.

If only we had gambling in the state maybe things would be different. OPS would be getting money from the casino taxes and would not have proposed the one city one school. Just a thought.....

Is this a good bill? I do not think so, but at least chambers and and couple of other senators had the balls and offered up a possible solution. Everybody complains about the whole OPS thing but nobody will offer up any ideas they prefer to just bitch about it. Maybe this bill will be what it takes to get everyone to sit down together and come up with a workable plan which is whaty I think was the goal because the legislature as a whole admits this is probably not the solution.

I agree shutter...I think that most in the legislature believed that when they voted for it. However, there are other issues attached to the bill that will hurt small communitites. Roughly fourteen hours before the final vote, a 158 (somewhere in that range!) adendum was given to those in legislature which outlined the "piggy-back" legislation. (I assume most were unable to read all of the fine print, so to speak) In that adendum, two million is granted to small school districts, which, I believe encouraged a great deal of those in the legislature to vote with the bill (granted, that's just my personal opinion).

Anyway, the concern I have is that these small districts, which are suffering greatly, will be expecting financial aid from the state, but it will never come because the bill will be tied up in the courts. So, as a result, what may be seen by some as "buying the votes of western Nebraska" simply causes their school systems to suffer.

Again, this is just my opinion, but there are larger issues than simply the Omaha metro. This bill is a set-back for education across the state, whether you are going to school in Scottsbluff, McCook, or Omaha.

Yeah but isnt it funny that we are suing to make schools better for our kids, yet the money used to sue should have been spent on making the schools better for our kids!!!!

As for this whole thing...it's all about money and not at all about kids. I don't teach for the money, I teach for the kids, so it really irritates me and I won't appologize for it.

I will just have to agree to dissagree with TNT today. They said OPS is only willing to talk now that lb 1024 is passed. Not exactly true! OPS allways wanted to talk, they just didnt want to drop ONE CITY!!! They never said that they would bend, just that they wanted all cards on the table... including that card. At that point the suburban schools didnt want to talk. And at that point the shoe was on the other foot! Hey truth be told I was kinds against the ONE CITY thing, and so were alot of teachers. Most of us didnt thing it was quite the right thing, or way to do it! But what pissed us off is the fact that many said OPS teachers werent as good, and its our fault some of the kids (esp in NORTH OMAHA) test score werent rising! And lets keep it real.... it wouldnt have changed anyting for the avergaqe teacher or student.

OK jughead I love ya, but don't go there with North Omaha...I mean we have some schools in all of Omaha that do poorly. However, I do agree that we just got pissed cuz they said we weren't good teachers. I am a freakin great teacher, and I resent that I am not seen as good as Millard teachers because I am in a bigger district. I got hired by Bellevue and OPS, but I chose OPS.

Lynne,calm down. I am sure you are a very excellent teacher. In my opinion, I think those scores say more about the students and their parents more than anything else. There is just so much a teacher can do. If the parents don't give a rat's ass if their kids study or not,what are you supposed to do?
