Re: New Movie Thread!

Hey didn't House of the Dead 2 come out directly to DVD?

That and I still gotta score a copy of Firecracker (a couple of friends of mine are in it)

I really want to see Silent Hill. I've played the first 2 games and they creeped the hell outta me. Not an easy feat, especially for a video game.

yeah House of the Dead was released straight to DVD. I heard it was better than the original.

I've never heard of Firecracker, but will have to check it out. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0204322/

They didn't release it for critics, but from the reviews I've read elsewhere, people say it may be one of the best horror movies ever! Those aren't my exact words, Ill wait until I see it.

Re: New Movie Thread!

My sister liked Hostel for cryin' out loud.

It makes sense that she wants to see Silent Hill seeing as how she is currently playing Silent Hill 4 on PS2.

Re: New Movie Thread!

OK I read all of these, and would argue that horror movies aren't really horror movies. They aren't scary, they gorey, and there is a difference. I love a well thought out scary movie that makes me jump and freak out, but I haven't seen one of those in a while. Not that you guys shouldn't watch them, but I don't watch them just for gore factor...yawn.

Re: New Movie Thread!

I agree that most horror films these days aren't horror films so much as gore fests. There's nothing scary about blood & guts. Disgusting, yes, but not scary. From what I've seen of the trailers though Silent Hill looks like they've captured the atmosphere of the games. The games (the first 2 anyway) have some blood in them but it's not central to the fear, if that makes any sense. The fear is caused more by what you hear than what you see. Things like disembodied voices, fleeting shadows and disorientation are what're used to freak out the player. I'm just hoping that will carry over to the movie.

Re: New Movie Thread!

I agree with you Lynnie...I love movies that make you think. M. Night Shyamalan has done a pretty good job with that (even though he pretty much stole a lot from Hitchcock)

I still haven't forgiven Shamalamadingdong for 'The Village'. Major let down.

Re: New Movie Thread!

TG perfect example! The Village was a let down, but I watched it again a couple of times, and it actually was better the 2nd and 3rd time, but the first time I was like . Another example, and I don't care how lame, is Scream. First time I saw it, I was totally into it, and freaked out. It has its share of gore, but also a pretty good plot.

I don't care what anyone else says. I still think 'Blair Witch Project' is pretty creepy.

Darby O'Gill and the Little People freaked the shit out of me when I was a kid...that banshee at the end...oh, The Dark Crystal and the Rats of Nimh pretty much screwed me up for a few years as well

Re: New Movie Thread!

Yeah Jughead, that is a pretty scary part in Nemo!

As for Blair Witch...I convinced my mom to go, my mom! She doesn't watch scary movies at all, but at the end she goes, "What a stupid movie!" Ha, I agreed.
