Do I switch jobs too often?

I know in the IT field, it's pretty common for people to be "pond hoppers" and go from job to job quickly.

I think I have a problem with getting bored of one job too quickly though. My first It job I had was back in 01, stayed there for 2 and a half years, then moved to omaha, had my second IT job here for a year and half or so, and then moved to this one.

I am already thinking about new opportunities..........Is that bad? When I was new and learned new things daily, that was OK. But now it's all the same thing day in and day out..........such is life I guess.

[edit]
I've been at my current job for a tit bit over 6 months now........

If you can get more money and better benefits, and it would be interesting to you and the company is stable, I personally would go for it.

Naz, IT does get pretty boring pretty fast. I think this is more of a question your family needs to discuss. What are your responsibilities vs. getting any kind of joy outta your job. But if you are just looking for justification...sure switch jobs! We love you no matter what job you have.

Re: Do I switch jobs too often?

Well I want to stay in IT - I just want to go somewhere else already. I honestly think I'm just getting bored of this job already. Some days, I literally have *nothing* to do all day. Nothing. And I have had so many of those days, I've already used up all my ideas of "I can do this on a slow day" type of things.

It's killing me!!!! OR then again, maybe it's just Friday and I really don't wanna be here. It is once again a slow, slow day.

Re: Do I switch jobs too often?

Here's a question to ask yourself. At all the places you have been before, have there been days like this also, just "down days"? If so ,it may be the career field.

If it is a "down day" I suggest liberal amounts of alcahol.....

I think against my better judgment, I will have to agree with that.

Re: Do I switch jobs too often?

LOL - sweet! I will just leave work 2 hours early, go home and drink. Sounds much more fun that sitting here at work.

And it's never usually a down day. it's like a down week or month.

naz as long as you are happy with your decision that is all that matters. i think of it like this you can't pay me enough to work someplace that i'm not happy.
