| A day of remembrance... Let us not forget those who gave their lives in our nation's service, pray for those who continue to serve, and thank those who have served in honor of our great country. "We cherish too, the Poppy red That grows on fields where valor led, It seems to signal to the skies That blood of heroes never dies" It's easy to let the 3-day week-end overshadow the real meaning of Memorial Day...after reading this post, pause for a moment of silence and remember those who have fallen. Luv to you all

Remember the reason for Memorial Day!! I watched the flag pass by one day, It fluttered in the breeze. A young Marine saluted it, And then he stood at ease.. I looked at him in uniform So young, so tall, so proud, With hair cut square and eyes alert He'd stand out in any crowd. I thought &how many men like him Had fallen through the years. How many died on foreign soil How many mothers' tears? How many pilots' planes shot down? How many died at sea How many foxholes were soldiers' graves? No, freedom isn't free. I heard the sound of Taps one night, When everything was still, I listened to the bugler play And felt a sudden chill. I wondered just how many times That Taps had meant "Amen," When a flag had draped a coffin. Of a brother or a friend. I thought of all the children, Of the mothers and the wives, Of fathers, sons and husbands With interrupted lives. I thought about a graveyard At the bottom of the sea Of unmarked graves in Arlington. No, freedom isn't free. Enjoy your Freedom & God bess our troops!!

| Re: A day of remembrance... Just remember that a Veteran somewhere is being laid to rest. And he fought for your right to burn the same flag that drapes his coffin. This saying has stuck in my mind ever since the first time I heard it....

| Re: A day of remembrance... A simple thank you.... Last week, while traveling to Chicago on business, I noticed a Marine sergeant traveling with a folded flag, but did not put two and two together. After we boarded our flight, I turned to the seargent, who had been invited to sit in First Class (across from me), and inquired if he was heading home. No, he responded. Heading out I asked? No. I'm escorting a soldier home. Going to pick him up? No. He is with me right now. He was killed in Iraq. I'm taking him home to his family. The realization of what he had been asked to do hit me like a punch to the gut. It was an honor for him. He told me that, although he didn't know the soldier, he had delivered the news of his passing to the soldier's family and felt as if he new them after many conversations in so few days. I turned back to him, extended my hand, and said, Thank you. Thank you for doing what you do so my family and I can do what we do. Upon landing in Chicago the pilot stopped short of the gate and made the following announcement over the intercom. "Ladies and gentlemen, I would like to note that we have had the honor of having Sergeant Steeley of the United States Marine Corps join us on this flight. He is escorting a fallen comrade back home to his familyl. I ask that you please remain in your seats when we open the foward door to allow Sergeant Steeley to deplane and recieve his fellow soldier. We will then turn off the seat belt sign." Without a sound, all went as requested. I noticed the sergeant saluting the casket as it was brought off the plane, and his action made me realize that I am proud to be an American. So here's a public "thank you" to our military Men and Women for what you do so we can live the way we do. Stuart Margel, Washington, D.C. This letter was printed in my local newspaper and I thought it appropiate to share it with you guys.
