Greetings T & T & Co.

I'm a steady third shift listener, and no one has suggested a balanced idea for the immigration problem. One side says to leave it as is, and give amnesty the rule of the day. The other says lock down the border and shoot all who approach. I have a different idea, see how this sounds.

Build the wall. Have the states gather what money they can for the project, and supplement it with federal money. Since that kind of labor is rather pricey, here's the new slant. Give all the illegals the job of building the wall. Let them have one year to sign up and work (for mere pennies as they now do) on the wall. The project would take more than a couple years to finish, so let the workers begin their application for citizenship. If, by the time the wall is completed, any given illegal immigrant has chosen not to work on the wall, they are exposed to deportation. This project is something both sexes can work on, for a wide age range.

I know it'll never happen, but I thought I'd toss it out there and see the reaction.

Hmmmmm..... I'd like to respond to this..... But I am already treading on egg shells, as it is.... Nope! I will keep my opinions to myself and be known as the wishy-washy when it comes to the imagration issue.... BUT! I do think I have a sure fire way of correcting this problem.... But, unfortenately, It's the same plan I had for the middle East....

yes it is a fact... unless you are American Indian(me 1/4) our peeps came from Europe, Africa, Ireland..Insert country here...big ass melting pot! But our families came here to flee from rereligious persecution, potato famine, slavery(sorry..not by choice) anyway..after 9-11 I think we do need to protect ours. World Wide Watch Dog=USA. Iraq..Muslum..Afganistan..religious fighting..these people have been fighting each other for thousands of years and Bush thinks he can clean it up in his term?

Good post Ryan but I have to take exception with the last comment... Bush might be the one on call right now. But this fight has been happening since Jimmy Carter... Iran poked its ugly head up out of the sand in the '70's and the US has been dealing with them since... This fight is going to come to a head, weather you like it or not... (I am not putting up for Bush here)

Iran has been saying for the last 40 years that they want to control the middle east. They have publicly stated That Israel shall be wiped off the map... Iran has 250,000 soldiers sitting on the Iraq/Iran border right now, poised to take their opportunity to gain control of the central hub of the middle east. (Iraq).

We have one carrier group off the coast with another carrier group moving in. We are relocating Pershing missile groups all over Europe and keeping Japan and S. Korea from selling new oil drilling equipment to Iran...

We are breaking them financially, and soon, Militarily...

I don't know if it is going to happen in the next two years or not... Lord knows that the current war has been a cluster fuck! (I'd pull the troops out right now! And then turn the middle East into 2,400 degrees of molten glass!) ((Problem solved!))

Anyway... Bush won't solve it in his term... But he did get the ball rolling, and people forgot why.... The next president needs to take that ball and run it into the end zone a couple of times!!!! The people that are running for president right now (sound like) they are banking on the downfall of the US for their own political gain...

Yes this president does not know how to conduct a war. Yes the Generals don't know how to conduct a war. Yes politics are too prominent in this war. (As with Vietnam). And yes, the hippies are still here and alive.... (Although older and just as stupid...) We need a person that can take charge and say "Fuck you! This is how it is going to happen!"

And for those of you that think that this has been what Bush has been saying.... I say BULL SHIT!!! He has been buckling in since day 2. That is why we are here at this point, right now....

The only real thing that PISSES me off about this "illegal immigration" BS is...
People say they take the low paying jobs. This may be true in some cases but fact of th ematter is, they are a laborers work force and make pretty damn good money. Sure, they don't have the professional jobs but they make damn good money. This illegal lived across the street from me. His wife (they married hoping to make him legal but the new law passed that didn't allow that anymore) ...anyway, his wife was raisign their child, living on the welfare system. Getting foodstamps, a check, and medical care for her and her child. We will assume that the medical assistance alone was $300 a month because she got routine care for her medical problems. Then, she recieved about $300 in foodstamps and an additional $300 for cash assistance. Thats $900 right there! Okay, so back to her illegal husband (who she told the state was now living back in Mexico so she could draw assistance)...he works for a drywalling company and puts in a good 11-12 hours a day. Often working 6 days a week his checks are averaging $900 a week! A WEEK. That is non-taxed, under the table money. We will say 50 weeks out of the year (although they normally work most holidays)... that averages $45,000 plus an additional $10,800 in assistance from the state. So, $55,800.

Meanwhile, my bf (of 6 years) has a professional career, on salary, working sometimes 80hr weeks, making 60K before taxes, insurance, and his child support obligation. He could take a 3 tests and get another 9K in bonus, however, we realized that it would send him into another tax bracket and he would be bringing home about the same as he is now because of the TAX man.

It pisses me off, really! Mexicans working the jobs that the average american man won't? If the legal while man knew you could make $45K non taxed as a drywaller, get assistance to pay for all his damn kids and insurance that was free, I bet he'd do it. Illegals don't work the $5.15 an hour jobs, they work for nothing less than $10 an hour. Although not alot, its far better than minimum wage.

Deport their asses! Those who won't go willingly, throw in a damn illegals prison and have them labor! Build that damn wall. Bet they'd scury to get back over!

Clearly, something needs to be done. Both sides of the issue have been represented in an arguably reasonable fashion...however, this debate seems to fall in and out of the national focus. As entertaining (I use this term in a journalist's sense) as the Missouri kidnapping case is, perhaps the nation should concentrate on solving arguably more important issues. Of course, I'm sure that sentence alone opens up more debate, so I apologize if this thread gets off-topic.

Very interesting thread, everyone. I've enjoyed reading it.

illegal imigrents should all be sent back. the ones who are legal im so so about but at least they are legal. the wall is a good idea but it has to go as deep as it goes high. every thing else is just a bandaid on a gaping wound.
