I see alot of IT jobs that I would love to apply for, but they all require "top secret clearance" which sounds pretty damn tough to get.

Anybody know how to become "top secret" ?

OK..........so I found this link

Has anybody ever been through this process before? It takes 6-9 months apparently, and the government also apparently has to stalk you for that entire time...............I dunno if I want to go there or not.

Sounds like a lot of work, but they may make it appear that way for a reason. Maybe so they do not receive so many apps.

...if the jobs you are applying for justify the time while waiting for clearance, I'd go for it.

I had a secret clearence in the military. It took 5 months to get that.....

Geez............that is a long friggin time. But these jobs come up all the time, and I always think to myself, "I wish I had that so I could apply" so it may be worth it I suppose.........

That is what I had as well. I had to literally write a map down to at least 3 different people I knew in my hometown, it was a pain.Imagine this, I had to give these to people in San Antonio, and they said they had to find my place in Fremont at the time. It was off a rural route. That was the first time my brain about exploded in the military.

at least they had to go to Fremont. that is time from there lives that they will never get back.

Geez, I can't even get security clearance to my classroom in the summer...I had to turn in my keys.

Yeah, but you had a reason to get it.... I just needed it so I could work on trucks and generators inside of sensitive areas..... I don't think I saw one sensitive piece of equipment when I was in the Army...

its a very extensive background check...criminal, personal, credit. They will interview several people past and present. High school buddies, old girlfriends, ex-wives (that was always fun). A lot of it depends on how high of clearance you need. A friend of mine was in charrge a global weather at Offutt and needed super top secret. His team would be forcasting for the Persian Gulf. I even got interviewed.
