| I love Grandma's Here's a quote from someone who witnessed a recent interaction between an elderly woman and an antiwar protester in a Metro station in DC: "There were protesters on the train platform handing out pamphlets on the evils of America. I politely declined to take one. An elderly woman was behind me getting off the escalator and a young (20ish) female protester offered her a pamphlet, which she politely declined. The young protester put her hand on the old woman's shoulder as a gesture of friendship and in a very soft voice said "Ma'am, don't you care about the children of Iraq?" The old woman looked up at her and said, "Honey, my first husband died in France during World War II, my second husband died in Korea, one of my sons died in Vietnam, a Grandson died in Desert Storm, all so you could have the right to stand here ! and bad mouth our country. If you touch me again. I'll stick this umbrella up your ass and open it."

| If you give me enough throcks, I'll play with your ![]() ![]() | Re: I love Grandma's This reminds me of a situation our 8th graders faced in DC...it was Monday, so Memorial Day, and we were all getting our pictures of the White House, when suddenly we all got told to evacuate the area (we would find out later that Bush was leaving la casa blanca to speak at Arlington). It kinda stunk, because this was our chance to take pictures of the White House, but we did as we were told. Basically, you don't mess with the Capitol Police Force. Anyway, we all found it odd that they were kicking out the kids, older people, and obvious tourists, but the protesters (with TERRIBLE signs about veterans and our soldiers in Iraq) were allowed to stay. Don't get me wrong here people...I totally stand behind the basic civil liberties the constitution allows for, however, it was very difficult on Memorial Day, of all days, to explain the double standard to my students.
