I am not a huge fan of country music either, but I respect where it comes from and the fact, like the "blues" Dave, that its an original American art form. All I was trying to point out is the fact that the Chicks stood their ground by not caving to social, political and economic pressure and produce a bunch of whitewash fluff. They took the high road and maintained their integrity by doing so. I respect that. Plus it is a very good song and the symbolism in the "video" is simplistically stunning. I'm with you Ox and Chubby...if the Chicks didn't turn political, they wouldn't have to defend their music at all. No one raises a stink when Bono makes one of his political messages, however, country music is all about supporting the status quo.

And, now, looking at the president's recent polls, as well as the hundreds of men and women who have been killed in "Persian Gulf II", I think they were a bit ahead of their time. Hendrix was seen as a rebel for his guitar solo of the national anthem at Woodstock, yet, it is music and pop culture history. Don't get me wrong...I support our troops, love this country, and wouldn't put the Dixie Chicks and Hendrix in the same room musically, but I feel they got the shaft for doing exactly what this country was based upon. Politics and showmanship have always gone hand-in-hand in our country.
