I know there is at least one mechanic here............

General background of why I am doing what I'm doing, then a question.

Lately I have seen a small leak under my car in the front passenger side. A bit after that, my clutch went "soft" and I realized that was what the leak was.

So I tear into it last night, and sure enough, there is (for some reason) one section of rubbber hose in the clutch line right down by the slave cylinder. And of course there are the usual fittings on the metal line connecting them to the rubber line.

Just a question about these fittings though. Everything on this car seems to be a metric size. These look to be a 10 mil at first glance, but a 10 mil does not fit them snug enough, and I know if I try to use a 10 mil (just an open end wrench, BTW) I will round the corners off of those fittings (something I do NOT want to do).

If I use a 10mil flare end wrench, will that do the job better? Or would it be that for some reason, just these fittings are an ASE size?

If they are fittings they are brass and are soft so use a line wrench

Yes, they are rather soft.

Will a 10 mil line wrench fit more snug then a 10mil open end wrench? I hope so..............

a 10 mm is a 10 mm if the open end was sloppy anen the line wrech will be too i would see if you can find a STD

could be brass and could be steel flare fittings.... Most brass fittings are undersized in the first place because of poor quality control.. Standard sizes are metric 10mm and ASE 3/8th... Most likely if the 10 is loose then it is 3/8th... You will have to use a flare nut wrench if you want a chance of getting them loose. But you are probably going to have to soak them first with something like kroil, 556, LPS, or WD-40 for half a day at least.... And worse case senario would be to crack the bleeder at the slave cylinder and heat the fittings. Not cherry red but just until they start to turn color...

It also depends on the brand of wrench you are trying to use.... I have MAC flare wrenches that are tighter than my Snap-on open end wrenches... If your trying to use some el-cheapo wrenches then lord knows what actuall size they are.

I think I'll go and buy a good quality 10 mm flare end wrench today. That is probably honestly the problem. I forget what brand these wrenches are, but they are not high dollar by any means.

And to make things worse, I've called about 10 Dodge dealerships today, and nobody has the part I need in stock..........it's a sad, sad thing........How can one piece of rubber hydraulic hose be so hard to come by? Hell if I had the right ends for it, I could have the shop at work build one!

Well I went over lunch and got a flair end wrench, 9 and 10 millimeter to try to get this thing taken care of. Hopefully if Perfomance Dodge can pull through my part will be here tomorrow at 1, and I'll be on the road by 4ish.
