I came across 2 poems that I composed shortly after Sept 11th, 2001.

As I was reading them, I felt compelled to share them...they are in separate posts.

On Nine Eleven,
We looked toward heaven
In shock and disbelief.

The fabric of our being was torn
And the nation – as one – began to weep.

Through gut-wrenching pain
And the sting of tears,
We rise from the wreckage
Despite our fears.

An evil has attacked us,
Now lurking in the shadows unseen.
Our anger has grown tenfold,
Our senses now heightened and keen.

The battle’s begun; war has been declared.
But the U.S. of A. shall never run scared.

For as the dust finally settles,
All Americans know for sure:
We will be victorious in the end,
Freedom shall forever endure.

Hero, I know not your name,
Still my heart goes with you just the same.
Though you are miles away from me,
Your unending courage is so easy to see.

Your answer to the call has united us all
In a common momentum for terrorism to fall.
As you rebuild the nation, amidst a standing ovation,
Cheers ring in your ears
For your unrelenting determination.

Hero, I know not your name,
Still I wish I were with you just the same.
My prayers are with you as I weep
Hoping you finally get some sleep.

Thanks guys...I appreciate the feedback...I was emotionally reeling at the time, as we all were, and needed to release somehow.

9/11 will be the day that as my children grow up and as they have children, I will sound like one of those old farts that say..."I remember the day like yesterday" and then continue on about how I was doing this and that when the event happened. The kids will roll their eyes as they've heard it 1000 times before.

Question: Do you feel safer after 9/11 because of heightened security or less safe simply because you never imagined something like this would ever happen?
