Today is the day to honor those that have served our Country. I just want to say to all veterans - Thank you. Also don't forget the people that are currently serving and the families they have left behind. Serving in the military is a noble thing and all veterans and current serving military personal have my respect. Thank you, you have my support and love. .

As much as I am a peace keeper, and as much as I dislike our current leadership. I always support the men and women who would give up their life for my home and my freedoms.
My grandpa was in WWI, yeah I mean I, and drove an ambulance to gather up wounded men and bring them in to be patched up. My dad was an only child of an only immagrant, so he missed Vietnam. Then he had two daughters, and well, let's just say that it pretty much stopped with my grandad.
However, I respect what they do, what they have done, and all that they must do in order to carry out their duty. It is one of those things that I wouldn't want to do, and don't think I could do, but I am so glad that someone is out there doing it for me.

I want to share what happened to me on Veterans Day. I spent 22years in the Air Force as a Preventative Medicine and Flight Medicine tech. I went through a LONG divorce just before I retired. I have remarried and my wife and her kids have had no ties to the military. My step daughter has a teacher that was in the military and they did a project on Veterans Day. She worked on it with her mother and I and her teacher was impressed. Kelsey asked if we could go to the parade in Bellevue on Saturday as she had never been to a parade. We went, and I even pulled out my Air Force Retired hat and wore it. Got it as a gift when I retired and NEVER wore it . . . had a bitter sweet ending to my AF career.

At the parade, people were coming up to me and saying thank you . . I was like for what. . then it dawned on me . . . the hat . . . little kids, big kids, older folks saying thank you . . . . then it hit . . . I’ve been to this parade 10 times as a participant. Marching as member of my squadron. This was the first time I was the observer . . . brought on a totally different meaning. Then when the Color Guard approached, you could hear a pin drop in Old Towne . . . they stopped right in front of me . . . it seemed like forever. I’ve always had a soft spot for our flag, and I can barely make it through the national anthem without crying. But for this moment . . . . people and events flashed before my eyes. I seen buddies I severed with, I seen the lives saved, and the ones I lost. I seen my kids running to me, after getting off the airplane coming home from where ever. I seen my ex-wife holding a family together . . . I seen my career flash before me . . . . then the color guard proceeded. Kelsey (shes 8) asked why I was crying . . . . I didn’t realize I was. I wiped my eyes, knelt next to her, gave her the best smile I could, and told her, I was crying because of I was proud to serve our great country. She smiled, and gave me a hug, and said . “there I hugged a veteran today, and I love you for being one and being my new Dad”. I find myself wearing that Air Force Retired hat a lot more often.
