I saw this mentioned in the Synergy forums and found it to be a neat site to waste some time and mental energy:

Paper Pilot: Battle of the air - SolidWorks

I was able to craft a plane out of the third model that, if thrown properly, could travel a distance in excess of 46 m. I spent two minutes designing it and about 3 minutes testing it; one can quickly tweak their design in an effort to maximize distance...

For those who are bored, I suggest building one and then clicking "Practice" to test your design. It can be a bit tricky to find the best way to release your craft (pulling the launcher's arm too far back, for instance, causes a loop from hell and it goes a very small distance) but with a few minutes of testing one can find a suitable means.

I wish this site operated like the snowflake one so we could be able to show our finished product to each other, but I suppose we could just share specs if we wanted (to be called geeks

)

I seen this in the Syn forums as well KD...I couldn't get past mid-30's in distance. I think my best was 36.

Actually I grew up building RC and line control planes with my dad.

In the 9th grade, we had a science project to build a paper plane and see how far it would fly. I spent two weeks building a bi-plane out of paper with airfoils and working control surfaces.

My plane flew the furthest until this girl, that didn't build a plane, just wadded up a paper ball, with a bunch of pennies in the middle, at the beginning of class, and threw it like a baseball. She won...

And the fricken teacher passed her...

I need lots of practice at this because after several minutes the best distance I could get was only 34.0 meters. Good scores for everyone else.

I played around with it this time and got 50.2....

Don't ask me to reproduce it....

I figured out not only you can pull his arm back.... But you can bend him over backwards for a higher arc of flight....
