As some of you know. I am the commander of the American Legion here in my town. I am also the commander of our Color Guard...

We had a full blown Military Funeral today for a WWII Vet here at our cemetery. I went out to take some pictures and thought I would share them with you people.

Money was no option with this family. So we got a pretty good show....

We'll start off with this pic of his Cremation urn vault....

A very nice vault named the "Veteran"

Thanks for the pictures Thender. We all have alot to be thankful for with all the men and women who have served, and are currently serving, in any military branch. Military personnel over many decades have sacrificed so many things to allow the people of the United States to enjoy the liberties and freedom we have each and every day.

These upcoming pictures are from a funeral back in July of 2006. The young Air Force Veteran of Iraq died in an ATV accident while enjoying some R&R time away from Offutt AFB. Always a sad way to end up....

This is the burial vault.... Also called the "Veteran"... Very Beautiful indeed... It has a stainless steal liner inside. Such a shame to bury a work of art....

That is striking...what a way for them to honor him.

My dad was a Vietnam vet. The thing that really upset me and I am sure many aren't aware of is, their funeral allowance for such things is $300. If I remember correctly (although my aunt handled all the arrangements)...we ended up getting two $300 entitlements for burial expenses because he was awarded two purple hearts during his service. I can't quite remember if this is accurate or not, but we got two of something for either his two tours or two purple hearts.

I wish the military did more to honor these men. Especially those who've fallen in the line of duty. I believe it is the men and women who serve or have served...your color guard for instance, give such a great amount of honor and respect to the families. Thank You!
