Some sources claim the youngest pope was Benedict IX (1032 A.D.), elected at age 12.

Although some sources do indeed claim Benedict IX was 12 when he became pope, the facts from this era are very murky. It's more likely he was between 18-20 years old.

The two popes before him were his uncles. He served as pope three times, and each time, he was forced out of the papacy and out of Rome. One consistent theme relating to Benedict IX is that he had no business heading up the Church: The 1913 Catholic Encyclopedia calls him "a disgrace to the Chair of Peter," and he was accused of everything from bestiality to murder
