| Re: Fact of the Day. Most dust particles in your house come from dead skin. On average, a typical home collects about 6mg of dust per day, or about 2.2 grams (.08 oz) per year. Along with human biological cast-offs like dead skin cells and hair, dust also features pollen grains and fungi like mold and lichens. In a single sample of dust, you can also find wood and paint particles, paper fibers, fabric fibers from nylon to rayon, plant and vegetable matter, dead dust mites and various insect body parts, and microscopic samples from the whole range of pollutants, from cigarette smoke to car smog to hydrocarbon waste from oil and gas heaters.

| Re: Fact of the Day. A.M. stands for Ante Meridiem which means "before noon", while P.M. stands for Post Meridiem, or "after noon". According to Daniel Boorstin in his book "The Discoverers," an assistant to the Roman consul was assigned to notice when the sun crossed the meridian, and to announce it in the Forum, since lawyers had to appear in the courts before noon. |

| Re: Fact of the Day. Fact No. 932According to one poll, 25% of Americans think the sun goes around the Earth. The geocentric model of the universe -- which posits that the sun revolves around the Earth -- goes back to Ancient Greece and had as its supporters the likes of Aristotle and Ptolemy. Among the observations supporting this was the common-sense perception that the earth wasn't moving. This model held sway even as Copernicus suggested a heliocentric (sun-centered) model in 1543. It would take the arrival of the telescope in 1609, Galileo's application of it in 1610, further work by Tycho Brahe and Johannes Kepler, and finally, Isaac Newton's 1687 law on universal gravitation to convince both scientists and a wider public otherwise. Sadly, over 300 years later, their hard work has yet to reach a minority of Americans.

| Re: Fact of the Day. The "G" in G-string may have originated in the Philippines. Beyond referring to the string on a violin, the earliest known mention of the G-string comes from Americans in the Philippines in the 1800s, who described the native loincloths as "geestrings." By 1878, Americans were applying the term to the loincloths worn by American Indians. Since the etymology is not known with certainty, the G could also stand for "groin" or "genitals." The origins of "thong" are far clearer; the term derives from the Old English word for a flexible piece of leather, a thwong.

| Re: Fact of the Day. here is one for you a.d., b.c. people. Anno Domini (Latin : "In the year of (Our) Lord"[1]), abbreviated as AD or A.D., defines an epoch based on the traditionally reckoned year of the conception or birth of Jesus of Nazareth. AD is also an abbreviation for Christian Era.[2] Similarly, Before Christ (from the Ancient Greek "Christos" or "Anointed One", referring to Jesus), abbreviated as BC or B.C., is used in the English language to denote years before the start of this epoch. Some prefer the alternatives 'CE' and 'BCE', arguing that they are more neutral terms (see below). The designation is used to number years in the Christian Era, conventionally used with the Julian and Gregorian calendars. More fully, years may be also specified as Anno Domini Nostri Iesu (Jesu) Christi ("In the Year of Our Lord Jesus Christ"). 'Anno Domini' dating was first calculated in 525 and began to be adopted in Western Europe during the eighth century. The numbering of years per the Christian era is currently dominant in many places around the world, in both commercial and scientific use. For decades, it has been the global standard, recognized by international institutions such as the United Nations and the Universal Postal Union. This is due to the prevalence of Christianity in the Western world, the great influence of the Western world on science, technology and commerce, as well as the fact that the solar Gregorian calendar has, for a long time, been considered to be astronomically correct.[3] Traditionally English copies Latin usage by placing the abbreviation before the year number for AD, but after the year number for BC; for example: 64 BC, but AD 2007. However, the placing of the AD after the year number (as in 2007 AD) is now also common, while, analogous to the use of BC, the abbreviation is also widely used after the number of a century or millennium, as in 4th century AD or 2nd millennium AD, despite the inappropriate literal combination in this case ("in the 4th century in the year of Our Lord"). don't you just love copy/paste. |

| Re: Fact of the Day. A married man is 4 times more likely to die during sex if his partner isn't his wife. A 2004 study by researchers at the Center for Forensic Medicine in Frankfurt, published in Bild der Wissenschaft magazine, found 56 men who suffered fatal heart attacks while having sex. Of those 56: 25% (14) died in arms of spouse or partner; 50% (28) died in arms of a lover or a prostitute; and the remaining 25% (14) died in the act of masturbation. Researchers speculated that those who died with lovers or by themselves suffered from the extra strain they put upon themselves in those situations.
