Here's one that I found out on my own...

On clocks and watches with roman numerals, the number "4" is characterized by "IIII", not "IV". Why is that? The "9" is correct... "IX".

The IIII form was pre-1820 because George IV (1820-1830) objected to being known as George IIII; at which point Geoffrey Buggins wrote from England that the 1820 date is of no particular horological significance whatsoever, and that the IIII form is proper and necessary for balance against the VIII.
