These are a few pictures from our flag retirement Ceremony that we held yesterday on the 4th of July, right before the fireworks.. A very dignified ceremony that our American Legion does to educate the general public on the proper way to dispose of unserviceable Flags. These Flags account for about 20% of what we have to dispose of...

I've seen one with about 1/5th the amount of retired flags. very cool!

maybe you should introduce us to your troops. Lokks like they have some stories to tell....

That's all I hear from them, is stories....

My Color Guard represents all fields, all Services, and just about all wars....

Some are "crusty" and some are "dostile" I wouldn't have them any other way.... We work great together... Maybe that's why we are the Iowa State Championship Color Guard, 4 years running....

I can tell you that one of them was on a U-2 crew. And he has his crew picture published in a book about the U-2 missions. And a little write up about what they did...

Another, was part of a flight crew that flew "Black op's" off the coast of China during the Korean War, in a PV-2... He doesn't have any record to show for it because the US wasn't supposed to be there.....

Another is a Magistrate of Court.... But he is also a 20 year Veteran of the Navy. During Vietnam, he served in the "Brown Water Navy" on a PT boat... Saw a lot of blood....

Hey Thender, somebody as a promo stunt planted a bunch of plastic "made in america" flags in our neighborhood, not complaining, but I don't know what to do with them now.

They are cheap and plastic, but what's the official way to dispose of them?

Same way.... No matter what it is made of, if it's the flag then it needs to be retired this way...

Yes you are... Down here we have two converted mail boxes that are now flag drop boxes...

I'll have to do that, because there are probably 50 plastic flags waving around the place, and I'll probably kill somebody with the carcinogens of burning them.

very cool!! I thought there might be a story or two. Black Ops off the coast of China. Doesn't get any better.
