Stupid Radio Stunts - Scott Voorhees and KFAB

If I would have known this was happening, I woulda plugged TnTU a coupla times.

This link is supposed to take you to the actual blog post, but it takes you to the main page instead... look for the 'Blowtorch of the Midwest' title on the page if it doesn't work.

More here...including the article.
Has KFAB Lost Its Mind?

I'm with Hal Dawg on this one. I guess I'm too young or too old, but I wouldn't find it funny, nor entertaining, but that's in line with my general opinion of KFAB, too

Damn I went to Omaha and missed it.

I only get AM or XM in the office and listen to KFAB in the morning.

The transcipt of the calls themselves were somewhat funny, but reading it and hearing it while Lee Greenwood is playing are 2 totally different things.

Well, as original as Scott Voorhees is, I'm sure he stole the idea from somewhere.

Kinda looks like that guy that did Talk Soup for a while, with "the stripe"... He must be laughing at his own joke here. The 80's called, they want their shirt back.

That was fucking retarded.

Funny thing was, what would of happened, because he was letting them go un screened, I'm now wondering what would of happened if they were not on delay.

Re: Stupid Radio Stunts - Scott Voorhees and KFAB

Only the halfway humorous calls - from a 20-minute span - were included in that article. A good many of the calls were absolutely ridiculous - as if someone left a microphone open or something.

And yes, it would have been hilarious to have had someone plug the competitiors. Can you imagine if Todd or Tyler (or both) had called in?

Hey Everybody, this is Todd and Tyler. And you're listening to the lamest (their term, not mine) morning radio show in Omaha. So tomorrow, come on over to 92.3 FM and get a taste of what real radio is like.

The one with Steve Brown (of KKAR fame) calling in was hilarious. It almost sounded like him.

Damn, looks like Hal Dawg is hangin' up the typewriter...

It would be easy to pull the plug on this column with no public explanation. News directors and newsroom managers do it all the time when they have unpleasant news to share about talent being let go, poor ratings or format changes that will likely prove unpopular with their audiences.

But being in the "communication business," means keeping the channels open in both good and bad times. So look for the details on the end of four-plus years of column writing in the print edition of the City Weekly, available on newsstands Thursday.

Thank you to managing editor Jim Minge and the staff of the City Weekly for providing me the opportunity to share news and views about the media scene.
