For this:

96"x30"x24" (300 gallon) Fish tank.

I got a little bit done this weekend but ran out of screws. Instead of the regular mechanical filters I'm building a home made wet/dry filter and at the same time increasing my biological load capabilities by almost 200 gallons.

Getting closer. Started to fill it last night and developed a leak on one of the 2" bulkheads after I got about 50 gallons in it. I'm going to cut the piping out and replace it with a new one. Don't want to take chances with a repair.

New 2" bulkhead is being overnighted. Hopefully tomorrow night I'll get it filled.

Then by the end of the week I'll hopefully get all of my lighting finished in the canopy.

It's now full of water and hopefully done leaking. I'll get some pics once I get the lighting all installed into the canopy. Pictures look like shit without it lit up.

Here they are!!!!

This is will full lighting on. I now have this set for 4pm to 8pm

My volcano is made with a Cypress Knee, bubbles and a red led Hydor light.

This is the regular daylighting. This is from 6am-4pm and then again from 8pm to 9:30pm
If you look closely I have a green led Hydor light inside the belly of the ship.

Here is the moonlighting. 9:30pm to 6am
There are 7 settings. The first three are what I leave it on which is the 5th highest.
The final picture is on 7.

Now see if you can find all 20 Tiger Barbs. :mrgreen:
Those guys are a blast to watch in a tank this size!!

I should have turned the living room lights off for the regular daylight pictures as it caused reflections. I'll try and get those replaced tonight with new ones.

I want to do some time-lighting, just haven't done a time line yet... And I think I'll be needing to invest in that UV filter too...

The Sydney Opera house is in there because that is the first ever decoration that I bought when I first go into fishkeeping almost 20 years ago. I think I may put it towards the back though a little more out of sight. And the plant near the opera house that glows is coming out also.

Once the Oscars are introduced and start growing they are famous for tearing out plants. A year or so from now the decor will probably look a little different. If a plant get torn up and floats, plant gets thrown in the trash.

I never knew you'd need a big ol' thingamajig added separate from a tank juts to filter water, or whatever that thing you built is supposed to be doing. How often are you going to have to clean that system?

It's biological filtration... water and air help to create a special bacteria in helping to filter out ammonia and convert it into nitrites and help turn nitrites into nitrates. Then he has to do a percentage water change, every so often, to get rid of the nitrates...

And the larger the tank, the easier it is to maintain water chemistry...

What Thender said except the order is ammonia to nitrites then nitrites to nitrates.

And by having such a large sump I increased my bio-load capacity from 300 gallons to 500 gallons making it even that much more stable and easier to maintain.
