btw how did we go from nascar to this?

See,now that is a tough one.Its for women,there is no doubt about it.But you have to be in shape to be able to spin and stuff like they do.All I know is 1) Your not going to be seeing me watching it anytime soon,and 2) There is no way in hell our fat beer belly asses are going to be attempting anything on skates anytime soon.

like i said it is hard just not a sport. btw it is for gay men too.

ok here it goes. we can all agree on the big ones. i will throw in golf. fishing and bowling no. poker no. gymnastics is close but like figure skating it is decided by judges so it is not a sport. you may ask about the extream sports that are decided by judges also, well in my opinion those are sports. dancing is not a sport. now on to nascar. are the drivers athletes? yes. is it a sport. no. it is a competiton. again this is my opinion. what do ya'll think?

I believe I started this flat spin by mentioning golf as another sport that could be debated...but I think I prefaced it by declaring that this particular thread (titled "Nascar") was not where the debate should occur.

Just to play devil's advocate here a second.Any so called "sport" would be considered a "competition".

Here ya go Mike with my stab at it.
A sport is an activity that requires one or any of the following: talent, skill, physical ability, concentration, reflexes and mental and/or physical endurance, used to perform in a defined competition to determine a quantified winner and loser. Like Josh, I have a problem with sports that are judged, but how can you say that, for instance, boxing is not a sport?
The key to it to my way of thinking is the competition. (Closing a big business deal doesn't count.)
Nascar, tournament golf and bowling all require many of these traits in spades if you really think about it.
It may be impossible to come up with a definition that will please everybody, but I have tried to be as comprehensive and concise as possible while trying to cover all of the bases.

I will agree with your definition.And I was almost ready to buy into the judging thing,until you threw boxing in there.Which most definitely is a sport.Your right,there is no answer out there that would please everyone.
