The Video Game Thread

For anyone who cares, G4's E3 2007 coverage will be on July 10th through the 13th.

Hopefully the coverage won't suck like last year.

I beat the DS version of Spider-Man 3 earlier.

I kept reading about how great it was and how it was the only good version of Spider-Man 3.

Well, I have to say that it's not as good as these people were saying. It's still a good game, but not great.

You do all of your fighting moves via the touch screen. Which works well most of the time, but sometimes Spider Man would not do what he supposed to do, which got very annoying.

The game is really short if you do nothing but go through the main missions. If you do all of the side quests as well, the game becomes fairly long. According to my save file, it took me 8 hours and 4 minutes to get 100%.

Overall it's a decent game, but it's nothing special. At least it's better than Spider-Man 2 DS.

I've beaten Super Paper Mario recently and thats pretty much it.

not that it matters, but I finally played the Nintendo Wii for the 1rst time and I have to admit it gets pretty addicting as well as making your shoulder sore

Like most Wii games its pretty easy but it took about 20 hours to finish. There are lots of small side things to do as well.

I'd give it an 8.5 out of 10.

I have played the following games on the Wii.

Wii Sports - I like the Bowling, Tennis and Golf games the best. I'm not a huge fan of the Baseball or Boxing games.

Excitetruck - I only played it a few times. That wasn't enough to get used of the controls.

Red Steel - I was good at aiming and walking around with the Wiimote, but when I came face to face with someone, I would start to move around like crazy. I just couldn't get the aiming down when it came to fighting.

Super Monkey Ball Banana Blitz - The main game is pretty fun. I was used to using an analog to control the ball in previous Monkey Ball games, so I wasn't sure if the ball would be as easy to control with the Wiimote.
Surprisingly it was. There are also 50 mini games on the disc, but only certain ones are fun for more than 5 minutes.

I've played and beaten Twilight Princess, Rayman Raving Rabbids, Super Paper Mario.

Then I've played Red Steel(multiplayer mostly), Mario Party 8, and thats about it.

Is Mario Party 8 any good?

A video game show on Spike TV gave it a 5 out of 10.

Is that accurate? Or is it better/worse?

well with the Wii controls its added a little bit of life into the franchise, but I don't know if I'd bump the rating up much more than that.

The only Mario Party game that I wasn't a huge fan of was Mario Party 5.

Mario Party 4 might be my favorite, which is kinda funny because I don't actually own that one or Mario Party 3.

I played my nephew's copies alot though.

I'd have to say Mario Party 1 was the best because of the friction burn you'd get from spinning the stick with your palm. It made it a really fun competition as everyone is screaming out in pain.

We like Mario Party 8. It is different from the others and the whole wide screen issue is very annoying. I think they could have done more things with it, however it is still a good game.

I do like the speed of the games. As in the speed at which the characters move. MP4 was ungodly slow. They sped things up from 5 on.

For those of you who own a DS or DS Lite, you may be interested in the sale going on at Toys R Us, now through Saturday June 30th.

You can buy ANY two DS games and get ANY third DS game for free.

There's no way I'm missing out on this. I'll have to wait until Friday though...

On a side note, how many of you actually own a DS or DS Lite? I have a DS Lite and I believe Thender said he has a DS, but what about the rest of you?

I got a DS Lite for Fathers Day...now the whole family is playing Pokemon Diamond and/or Pearl.

Do you know of any MK titles for the system?

There are currently no MK games on the DS. The next closest thing would be to play one of the 3 GBA games on your DS Lite....though that's hardly the same thing..

There is however a DBZ fighting game on the DS called DBZ:Supersonic Warriors 2. I've never played it but I have the first one on GBA and that one is pretty decent.

Well, the E3 2007 bonanza started last night on G4. First they started off with a preview show where they showed some upcoming games....none of which I cared about.

After that they aired Microsoft's press conference live. The biggest surprise for me was probably seeing Resident Evil 5. They showed alot of other stuff too including upcoming titles for the Xbox Live Arcade. Some of the games looked cool, but do we really need another port of Sonic the Hedgehog? I already own four versions! Including the original Genesis cartridge.

I'm looking forward to Nintendo's press conference, which is supposed to air around 11:00 this morning live on G4. The Sony press conference will then follow at 1:00.

Aside from the big three press conferences being aired live, I thought the coverage this years E3 kinda sucked like last year.

They spent way too much time talking about certain games when they could have used that time to talk about a lot of games.

When you originally asked that question, the answer was no, but now there is a MK game coming out for the DS called Ultimate Mortal Kombat. For now it appears to just be a port of Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3. It will also feature Puzzle Kombat from Mortal Kombat Deception.

It's due out in November I believe.
