I can understand not hooking the canisters up in series....flow problems...but what about in parallel? A 'Y' with a check valve...?

Canister #1 (the one for sale) filtered down to 50 microns. Then to canister #2 which filters down to 25 microns.

It can be done but I have too long of a run going from the filter room back to the tank which added way too much head pressure.

The Marlin almost did it but I just couldn't quite get my target of 600+ GPH. I ditched one of the canisters and am now getting about 700 gph.

I used to breed Angels in 150's....freshwater don't need that much filtration....unless yer OCD about not having Pug hairs in yer water...

It all depends on how you want the water to look or how much work you want to do to maintain it.

Most people in the hobby would say to turn the water over about 5 times per hour with a canister set up. That would be 1500 gph. By that standard I'm under filtered.

The fish in this tank are also going to get much bigger creating a much larger bio-load. I'm by no means slamming Angel Fish as I've also owned them in the past and they are awesome fish but they are not very high on the bio load list being a slim bodied fish. I've also got quite the wet/dry system running with a large sump. I can change 25% of the water once a week and keep the nitrates below 20ppm.

Most of the members on a popular Oscar forum I visit have to do 50%-75% a week to keep nitrates down.

I'm no newbie to fish keeping, been in the hobby for almost 20 years, and did a lot of research before setting this tank up. I wanted a large tank with minimum maintenance. Mission accomplished.

And also remember, When the turn over rate might be 600gph, it does not mean that you are filtering every single gallon in that tank per hour..

Exactly, some of the discharged water is going to go back to the intake. I'm sure there is some fish geek out there with a formula that can estimate "tank turnover" based on intake position, outlet position, and flow.

I just know that when I finally got my canister and UV running the improvement in water clarity was like night and day. Looking at the front of tank always looked clear but when viewing from the end you could see cloudiness, not anymore.
