SPORTS QUESTION:

why did hockey never catch on in the USA? It had bad mutha f***a's hitting people into next week. Amazing goals and superstars, with alot of speed and agility, and everyone who I've ever talked to who has gone to a game has loved every minute of it. I can't explain it?

P.S. If anyone here hasn't gone to a hockey game, GO and catch up on how fans have a really good time.

I am very confused by the game but I am also confused by shiny objects and flashing lights. I never really sat down and gave it a chance. But I am a fan of the players. Yummy.

That's just it. Most people say that they don't like it because it can end in a 0-0 score like soccer (which is for kids who can't skate), but why is baseball so popular? I've seen some pretty boring baseball and football games (->maine<-) but most people have no attention span when it comes to hockey.

Haven't they changed some of the rules for hockey to try to draw in more fans? Like no more tie games, got rid of the blue line and cherry picking allowed. I have no idea what the blue line is for but cherry picking sounds dirty.

yeah, they changed the rules to allow more scoring and faster games, but now the games are gonna be on OLN so no one will watch, the diehards will watch, but they never stopped watching hockey. They need to attract the mediocre audience. ESPN really messed up any chance for that.

Here's my .02 on hockey and soccer in the US. The reason hockey and soccer haven't caught on with Americans is because of their perception that it's a slower game. Both are constantly moving games, unlike football and baseball. It is also typically a lower scoring game, which usually indicates a good defense - something that's unheard of in today's NBA.

Hockey and soccer do not translate well on TV because of the need for the wide angle shot to see how the field is setting up. If tv cameras were able to focus on one player, ie a quarterback or running back, fans would identify more with the player and, in theory, enjoy the sport(s) more.

Also, older Americans don't understand the sports as well as they do football, baseball and basketball. If they don't understand it, it's tough to appreciate. As the younger genrations get older, soccer and hockey will become more accepted.

So, this weekend in College Football was fantastic.

Norte Dame upsets Michican.
LSU beats Arizona State in a down to the wire nailbiter.
Texas beats Ohio State in a fantastic game.
Iowa State upsets the Iowa Hawkeyes.
Nebraska um...plays Wake Forest and there defense wins again...with the offense looking SLIGHTLY better.

I'm ready for some NFL later today though. Go Giants! (Even though you're just going to lose).

NFL wasn't all that great this week...NCAA again was fantastic.

Norte Dame fighting tooth and nail to come back and lose in overtime was pretty sucky for them.

Florida beat those Vols'.

Florida State beat Boston College.

And in Junior Varsity coverage...the Nebraska Cornhuskers beat the Pittsburgh Panthers.

Seriosuly, did anybody watch this travesty of a game? It was the ugliest win for Nebraska that I can honestly remember. It was like watching the Hindenburgh explode and collapse, honestly. This is coming from a big time Husker fan.

it was the worst college football game i've ever watched. that's 3 hours i'll never get back. and imagine that, you're a husker fan. that explains alot.

I don't think ISU upset the Hawks. The Hawkeyes beat themselves with sloppy play and turnovers and Iowa State just happened to be there.

I will admit that Iowa was overrated. They had lost their entire defensive line. Right now they have 1 Junior, 2 Sophomores and 2 Freshman. Iowa State was underrated. I believe they brought back their entire team. They are going to win the Big 12 North but get spanked by Texas in the Championship.

granted NU's offense sucks this year, but I have watched ISU walk into lincoln like a high school team for years now. I think that this year will be nothing different. Iowa State has a tremendous defense but for somereason I think lincoln intimidates ther cyclones. I predict the final score to be 24-13 nebraska.

I am a hawkeye fan. I watched ISU beat the hawks bad IN AMES. They showed a good team, but that's my prediction.

Here's my statement, you do sound like a Husker fan. When I tell a Husker fan I'm a Hawkeye girl, I get told 'Go back to your state.' Husker fan has no tolerance of a different opinion. It's like Husker fan can't wrap their head around the concept that not everybody who lives in Nebraska is a Husker obsessed, wear red every game day, Husker room, Devaney worshipping, Johnny Rogers' shrine building, Osborne Lover. My question is, you think if you don't live in that state you can't be a fan of that team? I'm also a die hard Oakland Raider fan and I've never been to California. Am I not a 'true' Raider fan? I'm not an Iowa State or Northern Iowa fan, does that make me less of an Iowan?

dry off behind your ears, wipe your nose and pay attention (maybe you should have your mommy read this and translate it to you). i was a sker fan until people of this state, pedersen and callihan killed it for me. i'm a registered republican (for fiscal reasons not social ones). so according to your prepubescent thought pattern i should become a democrat. when you get old enough to vote you might understand this.

Liking or not liking the 'skers is not a requirement to suck on TnT's genitalia. Everyone on this forum does so regularly whether they're a 'sker fan or not. (I mean that in a good way...) Unless of course, Mr. Hooper's Store isn't a TnT fan, which would raise the question - why exactly are you here? :unsure:

BTW, feel free to take a run at me Hoop. I look forward to hearing what you have to say to someone you know next to nothing about.

My mother did translate it for me. Your statement actually means: 'Oh dear God I hope Todd, Tyler and Travis like me next week!' There was more to what you said but it fades out with incoherent muffled moans and sucking noises.

As for you boobear, you can hate on the Huskers all you want, I don't care. There are freaks in every state (trust me, there is, no matter what Todd and Tyler say), and it's sad that they're hostile when it is just a game. (Also maybe you should have looked at my signature graphic before posting what you did.) Plus I love how you say I never let the Logan bashing go, but you say nothing to Logan for his constant (albeit lame) 'shots' at me. I quote shots because...they're sad, especially for somebody twice my age.

As for you reideen. I...don't know you at all, so I can't say anything about you. Although, I am a big Todd and Tyler fan and have been for about five/six years. I just choose to not, you know...go down on them like certain call-whores that post on this site.

OK, back to sports...um, yeah, great game in Lincoln. Nebraska broke a lot of records, the offense looked pretty good until it got past the opposing twenty yard line. An improvement is an improvement though.
