| Coach Callahan.....stay or go? Do you think that coach Callahan should stay or just walk? In my opinion......I dont think he cares what happens to our program. If he does not care....then just walk...he is getting paid good money. Take the money and go. |

| CLANAHAN....I know how is supposed to be spelled :) Ok for what its worth.......man I sound like Travis huh..anyway thought this was intersting.. it was an article from the Sporting News by Matt Hayes posted on Yahoo here is the link http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaaf/news?s...=tsn&type=lgns in case that does not work I 've posted the article below what do you guys think? I like the part where Clanahan blames the players...this is an f'ing classy guy huh.......... Nebraska became bowl eligible last week. So did Tulsa. And Louisiana Tech. And Nevada. Remember not so long ago when Nebraska athletic director Steve Pederson said he didn't want the program to slip into mediocrity? Don't be confused, everyone. Jordan Congdon's game-winning 40-yard field goal against Kansas State didn't boost Nebraska to some magical plateau under second-year coach Bill Callahan. It was a desperation win in a meaningless game -- loser finishes last in the Big 12 North; winner gets the chance to spend the holidays in lovely Shreveport, La. This is what it has come to at Nebraska: We're 21 games into the Pederson-Callahan Experiment -- really, what else can you call it? -- and the Huskers are considerably worse than they were when Pederson fired Frank Solich before the team's 2003 Alamo Bowl. That's when Pederson feared the Big Red was sliding into the middle of the pack in the Big 12. Middle of the pack, huh? Let me show you just how far Nebraska has fallen with a simple fan formula: Texas, the Big 12's best team, beat Kansas, 66-14, last week; one week earlier, Kansas beat Nebraska, 40-15. That means Texas is -- ahem -- a lot better than Nebraska. Thank goodness the Big 12's rotating schedule didn't put the Longhorns on the schedule, or those football-savvy Nebraska fans wouldn't be the only ones comprehending how bad this team is. I agreed with Pederson's move of bringing Big Red into the 21st century, of making a tough call on Solich that would hurt initially but pay off down the road. But let's face it, this is a bad team showing scant signs of getting better. Callahan is 11-10 in 21 games and only 9-11 if you disregard two wins against Division I-AA opponents. The cutting-edge West Coast offense is No. 106 in the nation in total offense; the once-feared running game is 110th. Those numbers are bad, but the more damning issue is this: When adversity struck two weeks ago, when Nebraska lost to Kansas for the first time since Mark Mangino saw his toes, Callahan blamed the players. Rule No. 1 in the coaches handbook -- never, ever, ever blame your players. "You do the best you can with the players you've got," Callahan said after the Kansas debacle. This is the same coach who, after a loss in a season full of them for his Oakland Raiders in 2003, said he had "the dumbest team in America." This, ladies and gentlemen, is unacceptable. Any coach worth his weight in long-term contracts knows teams are a reflection of their coach. Says South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier: "If our guys aren't lined up right, aren't where they're supposed to be, aren't doing the right thing, there's only one person to blame -- me. Players play how they are coached." Don't let NU's 6-4 record deceive you. There's a reason Nebraska is among the bottom half in the nation in penalties per game and turnover ratio, a reason the Huskers are 2-6 on the road the past two seasons. So was Callahan the right hire? That can -- and will -- be argued throughout a long, cold Lincoln winter. But you better believe Pederson can't wait much longer to find out. It's a new world in the coaching business -- three years and you're out if you don't show improvement. And guys such as Spurrier and George O'Leary (Central Florida) are making it tougher for athletic directors to beg for patience. Nebraska fans are known for their knowledge of the game, their sportsmanship and applauding the opposing team -- win or lose -- when it leaves Memorial Stadium. This time next season, the Huskers will be preparing for the season finale against Colorado. The question is, will Huskers fans be applauding the Buffs, or serenading Callahan as he leaves town for good? Senior writer Matt Hayes covers college football for Sporting News. | Batwoman ![]() | Well, this is only related to Huskers sports. Big news conference tomorrow at 2pm concerning Husker Basketball. It appears that Collier may be gone. (this is pure speculation, but from someone at Pinnacle). EDIT: Apparently the news conference is about expanding the north stadium. Go figure. Last edited by chriss; 12-12-2005 at 05:00 PM. |

| Should He Stay or should he go now 3 straight wins at the end of the season, finishing 7-5(barely), not quite enough to convince me. But, I am willing (albiet grudgingly)to give Calahan 3 games against real opponents 1-AA teams will not count if at the end of these 3 games the "West Coast Experiment" is unsucessful then it is time for a change. That is my personal opinion.

| The record was 8-4, not 7-5.

| Im a fan not a freak. I hope that Pedersons tenure is short lived. Another mediocre season would have solidified his demise, thats what I was cheering for. When it comes to the players, even Callahan for that matter, GO-WIN BIG-WIN RED-WIN!!! Its all about the players, the tradition and the "genuine" fans. Its not about Pedersons ego. And thats exactly what its become. Stevie boy flushed 100 years of tradition down the south endzone crapper when he took over. He sits there in his skybox seat on Saturdays like Ceasar in red overseeing his domain. Rome finally fell when "self" became more important than tradition. Ceasar Pederson will fall too and tomorrows not soon enough. |
