| For You Winter Sports Enthusiests. The 2006 Winter Olympic Games! Torino Italy. on a side note: the mascots they have chosen are innocuous enough. But one looks like the head of a giant sperm and the other one looks like a frozen toaster......but thats just me.

| I realize many of you are too young to remember the 1980 victory by the USA Hockey Team against the United Soviet Socialist Republic (Russia) in the semi-finals which nobody on the planet expected. It came at a time when our beloved country was feeling a little down on itself. We were just coming out of a deep recession, gas shortages/some rationing, thanks to the Carter administration, Iranian hostages and the cold war was alive and strong. Then all of the sudden, a bunch of college kids beat what was suppose to be the greatest hockey team on earth at the time in what many have said, and I would agree, one of the greatest if not the greatest moment in sports! National pride soared after that victory and even more when we beat the Finns in the final for the gold. I have never witnessed a cultural attitude swing of such magnitude before that or since. Undoubtedly HBO Sports (which rocks by the way) will be airing the documentary (Do You Believe In Miracles) of the Hockey Teams rise to fame soon to coincide with the winter games. I highly recommend you watch it, even if you're not a fan. It was a major milestone in sports.

| 80 hockey I think I was in 7th grade. My brother and I took our little 9" black and white tv and watched it under the bed so our parents wouldn't see us up after bedtime. At the time, we didn't realize what we were watching, but I think it was the greatest moment in sports for Americans. Although Miracle was a great movie, it didn't capture the feelings of Americans throughout the country. Even though hockey wasn't a major sport, many people tuned in just because it was the Olympics and there was only 4 channels including PBS. I told my dad about that after I was in college. He said he was watching it trying not to yell so we wouldn't be pissed we didn't get to see it. For those of you too young to remember, take the girls soccer team from a few years ago and multiply that by 1,000,000. |

| As far as the movie is concerned. It wasn't supposed to be about us Americans as much as just the story of the team.
