Teach Me NASCAR - Race Types

This is really a dumb question from me...

So... there are different types of races, or tracks? I can't recall any but I'll hear a 'neck talk about how some drivers are better at other tracks or different types of races. How can that be?

Is it like the real man's sport, golf, where long hitters are better on longer courses?

Put the peddle to metal baby, and shake and bake!

Re: Teach Me NASCAR - Race Types

Dave I like your intrest in this and i will try to help
Short Track: (Any impervious surfaced track consisting of less than 1 mile in length)

Bristol, Martinsville, Richmond.

Speedway: (Any impervious surfaced track consisting of at least 1 mile in length but not more than 1.499 mile)

Dover, Phoenix, New Hampshire, Rockingham, Darlington.

Intermediate Speedway: (Any impervious surfaced track consisting of at least 1.499 in length but no greater than 1.999 mile)

Atlanta, Charlotte, Chicago, Homestead, Kansas, Las Vegas, Texas.

Superspeedway: (Any impervious surfaced track consisting of a length at least 1.5 mile or greater whereas competitors traverse in an oval, triangular and/or circular configuration)

California, Daytona, Indy, Michigan, Pocono, Talladega.

Road Course: (Any impervious surfaced track which allows a variety of geometric corners whereas right handed turns are considered during competition as a means of positive progression)
Sonoma, Watkins Glen.

Some Drivers are better at certain tracks like both Gordons at road courses some teams even hire "hired guns" to race road courses

some teams spend more on the super speedway packages like aero dynamics

I dont know if this helps at all i know im more confussed now LOL

Re: Teach Me NASCAR - Race Types

And if you hear about "Cookie Cutter" tracks they are refering to the 1.5 mile tracks.
