Omaha, NE - Dana Altman returned to Omaha tonight, once again head coach of the Creighton Bluejays. Just yesterday, Altman announced that he was taking a job with Arkansas. Early tonight on the University of Arkansas campus, coach Altman apologized to Razorbacks fans "with deep regret" and said returning to Creighton was in his family's best interest. Arkansas Chancellor John White announced Altman's departure during a news conference outside Bud Walton Arena. "I knew it was a very difficult decision for them and their family," White said. Altman has coached the Bluejays for 13 years and said he made the decision to return to Omaha after talking to his wife and Creighton Athletic Director Bruce Rasmussen, who agreed to take him back. "This is something I'm doing for my family," Altman said. "I wish I would have come to that decision earlier." Altman had been hired to replace Stan Heath, whom Arkansas athletic director Frank Broyles fired last week. South Florida hired Heath on Monday.

I was alerted to that a couple hours ago.

That's amazing that Altman came back, although I'm sure he's now sure where he needs to be. I think we might never know, but he might have jumped at the money...and then realized it wasn't all that necessary perhaps

Yeah I am betting Creighton did do a counter offer but who is to really know.

Secondly, how will this hurt any future recruiting for him as coach?

Wouldn't he have already signed a contract with Arkansas before making the announcement to go with them in the first place?

First, as far as future coaching jobs, we'll have to wait and see. Second, no he didn't sign anything yet. It was just an oral agreement, so he has every right to back out.

Thats great he backed out, fans are more than pleased. I just didn't know if he had to take some kind of penalty for backing out of a contract.

Maybe he backed out cuz his contract wasn't what was promised in his oral agreement.

I've heard several speculations,but that's just what they are,rumors.I'm not sure if we'll ever know the true reason, and don't care. Just happy to have him back.

I'm sure he's quite embarrassed by the whole event, and will be in hiding for a while. Luckily the basketball season is over.

Read Altman leaving was do to Arkansas not allowing Altman to fully implement his staff and requiring him to retain some certain Arkansas assistance. Evidently those at Arkansas as pretty arogant wich may have led to Dana leaving.
