TnT Show 01-04-2001

Thursday 1-4-01

Todd and Tyler started off the show this morning discussing a variety of topics including the Orange Bowl and Oklahoma’s victory. They weren’t sure whom Husker fans should have been rooting for and took a few calls. Some said they wanted Oklahoma to win because it made the Huskers look like they had a better schedule. Others said they wanted Oklahoma to lose because they still can’t get over all of the ass whoopings Oklahoma handed the Huskers back in the 70’s and 80’s.

Early in the show, the guys started discussing how broadcast television edits movies for time and content. “Mrs. Doubtfire” was on last night and, although it’s primarily a family movie, it was still edited slightly. TnT have discussed this issue before and they both feel that movies are horrible when they’ve been butchered. Sometimes language or sex is essential to the very plot or feel of the movie and when it’s cut out, the movie is destroyed. They opened up their phone lines and took calls from listeners who had seen various movies that were ruined by broadcast television’s editing. “Scar Face”, “Goodfellas”, “Casino”, “Urban Cowboy”, “Boogie Nights” and countless other films were mentioned. There were even a few references to “Smokey and the Bandit” which, as you might have guessed, made Donnie chub. The discussion continued to pop up throughout the show.

TnT were joined by John Evans from the Funny Bone this morning. He’ll be appearing at the Bone all weekend with Lewis Black. John joined in on the conversations of the day and seemed to fit in quite well with the show. He, unlike some comedians who come through town, even joined in on the Sports talk when Travis did his thing today. John was very funny and I highly recommend you go see him and Lewis Black this weekend. An important note regarding the Funny Bone shows for this weekend : 18-year-olds will be allowed to attend the Lewis Black show, something not done often due to the liquor rules. If you are over 21-years-old, you can still buy and drink alcohol. Lewis has a large college following due to his rants on Comedy Central so Colleen decided to open up the shows for a slightly younger crowd while still not shunning those who are of age to have a drink or two. If you’re between 18 and 21, you can go see Lewis Black this weekend and those of you older can still have drinks. Call the Bone Phone at 493-8036 for reservations.

Travis came in and did sports this morning. Todd and Tyler had already spent a great deal of time discussing Eric Crouch’s hurt shoulder earlier in the show. The guys were pissed that Eric didn’t mention he was screwed up before they put their $20,000 on the line for the Huskers this season. As Travis’s sports continued, they touched on a variety of sports topics including the Orange Bowl, Crouch’s shoulder, whether or not the Husker center should leave school for the pros early, the BCS ranking system and Travis’s interaction experiment last night on his Fox sportscast. Even the comedian guest, John Evans joined in on the sports talk with TnT and Travis.

During Sports, the Creighton/Huskers basketball issue was brought up again. TnT spoke with Creighton coach Dana Altman. Dana said it was a great feeling beating the Huskers recently and expressed that he’d like to see a Home-Home sort of thing worked out between the two teams, something that I believe UNL does not want. The guys went on to ask Dana about the season so far, which Dana seemed quite pleased with. I’m sure TnT will be speaking with Coach Altman again soon so stay tuned and support your local basketball team, the Blue Jays!

Towards the end of the show, Todd and Tyler brought in their accountant to draw a name of the winner of their $20,000 (they didn’t understand why an accountant had to do it either). The name was drawn but not announced over the air. Instead, TnT and the crew were going to go to the home/work of the winner and present the check after the show. Photos, audio and possibly video will be made available on the web site soon, most likely.

Tomorrow TnT will be joined by Lewis Black from the Funny Bone. They’ll take your calls and probably discuss the winner of the $20,000 National Championship Guarantee as well. Tune in from 5:30am to 10am and then check back here in the afternoon for the update. Thanks for watching. Good night. –Corby-
