TnT Show 12-22-1999

Wednesday 12-22-99

Todd and Tyler started their show this morning by talking about the bright moon that we were supposed to get last night. Todd was clearly disappointed because the moon wasn’t nearly as large or bright as he expected. Lisa mentioned a story about Pagans that they did on last night’s FOX news. I guess the Pagans worship the moon so she tied the story into this morning’s discussion. Anyway, the gang spent quite a bit of time discussing various religions. They received calls from a Druid, Jehovah’s Witnesses and Mormons. I was quite surprised to say that all the callers weren’t nearly as freaky as I thought they’d be. Frankly, everyone seemed quite surprised to hear that TnT had Jehovah’s Witness and Mormon listeners! The Druid lady talked about celebrating the equinoxes and worshiping the Earth. The Jehovah’s Witnesses and Mormons discussed going door to door.

It was very interesting to hear them talking about every day things. Maybe it’s just me but when I think of those religious groups, I always think of freaks. The ones who called TnT this morning could have been just like any other caller. They discussed drinking and smoking and the Mormon even joked about smoking pot with Todd. One of the Jehovah’s Witnesses even said he liked to “twist one off 5 times a week”. I’m guessing, of course, that he added an extra one in there on Sunday just for the Lord.

Travis came in this morning and brought the guys some Christmas presents. The presents were more joke gifts than serious ones. Todd got a bar of soap to wash away his sins, Tyler got some funky book about relationships and Donnie got a book of proverbs that didn’t make any sense. TnT then gave Travis a hard time for thinking of buying his wife a toaster for Christmas. Mind you, this is a toaster that Travis wants, not his wife. Travis’s wife….the poor woman.

The guys from Acoustic Groove came in studio this morning and did 3 Christmas songs for TnT. Their original tune called “Merry Christmas Doll” was excellent and their versions of “The Christmas Song” and “Drummer Boy” were also top notch. I don’t think they have a gig coming up until the middle of January so once it gets closer, I’ll mention it on the web page. By the way, I noticed that the band member with that really fake laugh didn’t use it as much as he did during the band’s last visit to the show.

The Fish Heads came in studio this morning to continue their tradition of stopping up for the last show of the year. They joked with TnT about the religious discussion they were having and then talked about tequila. Afterwards, they performed “Let it Snow” as well as a song about a fat girl. They sounded great and were quite happy to continue the tradition of being the last live band on the show for the year. The Fish Heads will be at Champs on Christmas Eve (I believe) so stop on out and see them.

TnT had a conversation with Keith Emerson formerly of Emerson, Lake and Palmer today. They discussed his musical past as well as his current Christmas album. The keyboard player for the Fish Heads is a huge fan of Keith so he asked him a few questions. After some discussion, TnT told Keith that they'd send him a few of the Fish Head’s CDs so he could give them a listen. The guys also talked to him about living in England and what Keith plans on doing for the holidays/New Year’s celebration. Keith said he plans on just staying home. Through no fault of the hosts, the interview wasn’t as stellar as many of TnT’s other interviews but then again, how exciting can a washed up keyboard player be?

Well, that’s the update for today. There won’t be any more updates for a while because Todd and Tyler are going on Christmas vacation. They will be returning to the air on January 3rd. So, from now until then, keep it tuned to Donnie in the morning. He’ll be running the “Best Of Donco™” stuff for us over the next week and a half. We’ll see you back here on January 3rd for another update! Thanks for watching. Goodnight. –the Alien Guy-
