TnT Show 05-25-2000

Thursday 5-25-00

Todd and Tyler started off their show this morning talking about Eric Crouch and his $17 NCAA violation. It was the top story on Channel 6 last night. That surprised TnT because there were 10 Blood gang members busted with links to drugs and shootings. They thought something as significant as gangs, drugs and shootings would take precedence over a Husker getting a free ham sandwich and puddle-jumper ride but obviously the news media doesn’t agree. Later in the show, TnT made arrangements to send their new intern, Big Pussy, to Lincoln’s campus tomorrow to hand out ham sandwiches to football players. Tune in for that.

Lisa’s List this morning was actually a combination of 2 lists. She quizzed TnT and the listeners on the biggest news and entertainment stories of the ‘80s. The same formula was followed today as has been followed sense Lisa began doing these lists. TnT guessed some, listeners guessed some. A few of the obvious ones weren’t on the list and a few really odd ones were. At one point in the conversation, Todd began to debate the rest of the staff over whether or not Mt. Saint Helens ash made it to Nebraska. He insisted the ash spread to ND after it happened and was positive it had to have made it here as well. Even though Donnie and Lisa didn’t think the ash made it this far, a few callers said it did.

There was some more argument over camping and it’s definition this morning. Once again, Todd and Donnie got into it. Todd’s idea of camping is being on a mountain somewhere with no human contact. Donnie’s idea of camping is sleeping outside and drinking with his buddies. Tyler and I have the same opinion on the whole camping issue. People were not meant to sleep outside! That’s why we invented houses. Somehow I think the camping issue, fishing talk, weather talk and Mt. Saint Helens ash argument all stem from the same cloudy little place in the back of Todd’s cerebrum.

Mark Gross from the Funny Bone came in this morning. He is going to appear on the Tonight Show on 6-15-00. Mark had a lot of interesting things to discuss in regards to his upcoming appearance. He gave TnT some details on how his jokes were picked over and approved/denied for the show. TnT called Mark’s mom at one point during that discussion in order to get her opinion of her son’s sometimes dirty humor. The guys asked her about a few bits in particular and she often politely responded with “I don’t care for that one”. Surprisingly, however, she actually liked some of her son’s dirty bits. Mark also talked about his upcoming wedding and how he and his girl got hooked up as a couple after 10 years of being “just friends”. Mark is opening up for Medicinehat this week so get on out to the Bone and see the show. Call 493-8036 for reservations.

The Fishheads came by this morning and played a few songs for TnT including a Zeppelin cover (yes, really). Before they began, TnT made them tell about their drunken hospital story which involved one of the fellas falling over some bongos and slicing his hand open on a guitar string. The humorous part of the story actually took place while in the emergency/waiting room. It was just another funny drunken Fishhead story that I can’t do justice in the update. Maybe it’ll be replayed on a “Best Of” show sometime soon.

J Medicinehat will be in tomorrow for a while. The guys will also determine whether or not they carry on with the golf tournament. Their decision will be based on the amount of rain that could come tomorrow. If it rains “a couple inches in a few hours”, they’ll be moving the tournament to next Friday but if it’s just sprinkling, they’ll still play tomorrow. That’s all for the update. Thanks for watching. Good night. –the Alien Guy-
