TnT Show 08-30-1999

Monday 8-30-99

Todd and Tyler started off their show today by talking about the Todd-N-Tyler 100 that took place on Saturday. They didn’t delve into the topic for long, only mentioning sticky tires and lost of fun. After reading something in the paper about a Spam cook-off, they talked about the mystery meat for a while. They’ve been trying to talk someone into taking them through the plant ever sense they arrived in town but have only come to brick walls. It’s obvious that no one wants the outside world to know what Spam really is. Also, with Husker season about to kick off, the guys thought they’d talk about people taking the day off of work in order to attend or recuperate from Husker games. They talked with Lisa Volinec and Donnie (the only 2 real Big Red fans on the show) and got their points of view. They also took some calls from listeners on the topic.

At around 7:30, Todd and Tyler brought in a guest that they didn’t announce beforehand. They’d talked to him a while ago but brought him in studio this morning. The guest was R. Lee Ermey! You know him from his roll in “Full Metal Jacket” among more than 50 other movies and countless TV appearances. Lee was in town this weekend to participate in the Special Friends Celebrity Golf Tournament and figured he’d come visit his friends Todd and Tyler before he left town this afternoon. He stayed with TnT until 10:30 when they went off the air. In that 3 hours, the group talked about a plethora of topics and had a great time.

Lee spoke with TnT and their listeners about his film career and shared many interesting and surprisingly funny stories about people he’s worked with, things he’s done and more. They also discussed Lee’s days serving in the military, him getting in trouble with the law as a kid and what it was like being a technical advisor on some of the best war films in recent years. TnT also played a few audio clips from Lee’s movies and talked about those audio clips being turned into a rap song. That concept amused Lee to no extent. He was quite proud of the fact that he had been turned into a recording artist. Lee also told the guys about losing $300 at Harvey’s casino. They discussed and joked around with that for a while.

TnT also talked with Lee about his web site project. You can visit the site at http://www.rleeermey.com” target=blank>www.rleeermey.com. He’s scheduled to partake in a Live Chat with is web site viewers on September 12th. Check the web site for updated information.

The stories were so great and so large in number that there’s no way I could document them all for you here. I strongly suggest that you tune in to the Best Of on Saturdays or wait for TnT to go on vacation and catch the whole show. You won’t be disappointed. It was truly great. I believe Lee also said a record number of S-Bombs on the air today as well, beating former record holder Mills Lane. But, with a guy as intimidating as Lee, you tend to let a few S-Bombs slide here and there numb nuts.

Before TnT let Lee go, they had him do a few audio clips for them. They gave him couple of lines to read relating to the show and he fired them off in his “Full Metal Jacket” character’s voice. They bashed Tyler for constantly saying he’s from “back East”, ragged on Todd for being a North Dakota pot smoker and railed Donnie for being from North Bend (“Where the hell is North Bend?”). I’m sure we’ll be hearing them quite often in the future.

Well, that’s the update for today. After rereading it, it looks pretty short but take into consideration that 3 hours of the show were filled up with stories and tales from the very cool Lee Ermey. Check back here tomorrow for the Tuesday edition of the update. It’s a lot like the Monday version, only the date is different. Thanks for watching. Good night. –the Alien Guy-
