TnT Show 08-31-1999

Tuesday 8-31-99

Todd and Tyler started of their show today talking about some Husker news. They heard a rumor yesterday about Eric Crouch and Jay Runte quitting the team and Eric being talked into not leaving after all. Travis was on the golf course when he got the call and went to Lincoln today to get more information on the situation. TnT spent an enormous portion of today’s show talking about the quarterback controversy, rumors around who quit and why, taking calls from freaked out Husker fan listeners and touching on many other Husker related topics. I’d say they spent as much time discussing the Huskers today as they did with R. Lee Ermey yesterday. Suffice it to say today’s update will be lacking anything spectacular.

Within all of the Husker talk, the guys had a discussion about their trip to Iowa on Saturday for the first game. Tyler said he wasn’t looking forward to the trip like he was when first approached with the idea. He equated his initial thought to when he was in college and had the “let’s party all night!” mentality. As it gets closer to the first game, he’s starting to think more like a near-forty guy who doesn’t feel like drinking the sun down and back up again. Tyler also expressed some concerns about who would be driving them there. Neither he nor Todd seemed to fell comfortable with letting Donnie drive because they fear he’ll fall asleep. There was plenty of debate between TnT and Donnie about it and after a while, Donnie pulled out the CDL card. He boasted about being the only person with the license to drive the Chub but his comments were quickly turned around on him. The guys began giving him crap about how he claims to be better than TnT at everything (drinking at the B-Day Bash, being a better athlete, bla, bla, bla). After a while, Donnie started getting bitchy with the callers so TnT piled on him for that, too. It was pretty funny. I’m sure they all tongued each other once they got off the air. I doubt a grudge between any of them will be carried over into tomorrow’s show.

The conversation about their fears of the Iowa Chub driver falling asleep on them sparked a topic that many listeners participated in. TnT asked the audience to share their stories about falling asleep behind the wheel. Some of the people had trouble distinguishing “falling asleep” with “passing out” but for the most part, the callers were on the mark with the subject. They got calls from people who’d fallen asleep on the interstate as well as at stoplights. One guy said he’d fallen asleep while driving and had woken up as he was being pulled over by a cop. The cop had stopped him for an out headlight. When the driver got out of the car to inspect the out light, he saw the damage he’d done to his car while sleeping on the road. Then the police officer noticed the driver had a mailbox in the back of his truck! Many of the stories were pretty funny but all of them seemed to have a looming cloud of evil and destruction overhead. Thankfully, none of today’s stories had deadly endings.

Towards the end of the show, TnT called their new friend Debbie Gibson. Today is her birthday so TnT thought they’d wish her well. She’s in Colorado now visiting some family but was more than happy to talk to the guys. They had a discussion about the backstage events from the Birthday Bash and then moved on to talking about Debbie’s dovetailing boyfriend/toy. It was nice to hear from her again.

Well, as I said in the beginning of the update, this one’s lacking. All the Husker talk not only ate up gargantuan portions of the show, but also must have engulfed many parts of my already small brain. Check back here tomorrow for another update. Hopefully there won’t be as much Husker chatter to report on. Thanks for watching. Good night. –the Alien Guy-
