TnT Show 09-08-1999

Wednesday 9-8-99

Todd and Tyler started off this morning’s show discussing alcohol and sports. They know that there isn’t any alcohol served at the Husker games down in Lincoln but they don’t believe for a second that there wont be some sort of beverage in Memorial Stadium’s new sky boxes. They pondered various ways to sneak in booze and took a few calls from listeners with ideas as well. One caller said he knew someone who had shipped some alcohol to his skybox. Others suggested hollowing out those hideous corn head hats in order to make room for a bottle or two. After a while, they decided to take the topic in a different direction. They weren’t really looking for ways to sneak booze into games; they’re grown men and can figure that out for themselves. What they wanted to hear were stories from people who had been caught trying to sneak something into a game or event. Many calls came in throughout the entire show on the topic. Most of the stories were very funny, too!

With all the discussion about alcohol and sports, it wasn’t long before TnT touched on something they’d read in the paper about the president of UNO’s student body. He was arrested after Saturday’s Maverick game for disorderly conduct. TnT brought up the article and took a few calls from eyewitnesses who saw the guy, drunk and in a skirt, at the football game on Saturday. Shortly after that, they got a call from the guy, John Shradar, who is a frat brother to one of TnT’s coworkers. They talked to John directly about what had happened. John said he’d had 4 beers. Later he said that was “all I can remember” having. Then he told TnT about how he was kicked in the balls by some woman from the opposing team. TnT asked him about what sort of trouble he was going to get in but John didn’t have an idea. He’d only met with the bosses of the U once but expected more meetings today. It was all pretty humorous.

Lisa Volinec read a story today about some guy getting in trouble somewhere in the Middle East for dying green olives black with shoe polish and then selling them. He did it because green olives are cheaper than black olives and the guy was looking to turn a profit. Anyway, the olive talk spawned Tyler to reset his story about eating Old Chicago’s pizza with whole olives on it and then, um, expelling the whole olives shortly after. I’m sure you remember the story so I won’t bother to reset the details. Tyler, on the other hand, filled Lisa and the listeners in on the details of the story all over again. Lisa was truly disgusted by the story but it was very funny. To cap it all off, Joe from Blue House called up and asked TnT if Lisa had any stories about corn or peanuts, too.

Larry the Cable Guy checked in this morning and gave a commentary on 9-9-99. Yes, it’s another computer-related date that’s supposed to be the end of the world. Larry seemed pretty pissed off about all the hype and ranted for a while. His commentary was full of references to 6-6-66 and how nothing bad happened on that date. He also pulled out he obvious joke and commented on how wonderful a number 6-9-69 is. Larry will be in town later this month and will probably come in studio to hang out with TnT. Stay tuned for more commentaries from Larry.

Towards the end of the show, TnT got a call from a guy who was in prison. He’d been in for 7 days because he failed to pay child support. After the judge dropped his bail from $3000 down to $100, he still was having trouble coming up with the money. As a last resort, he asked TnT for help. Frankly, Todd and Tyler didn’t seem like they wanted to help this guy. I don’t blame them. He’s way behind on his child support payments and that is not cool at all! Then again, they kind of wanted to help the guy because he’s a listener. Todd opened up his wallet and said he had $10 in it. Following that, he said one of the harshest things I’ve ever heard come out of his mouth. It didn’t offend me, however. I totally agreed with what he said (as harsh as it was) and felt Todd was right on target with his comment. “I’ve got $10 in here but I think I’m going to use it to buy something for my kids!” The guy on the phone felt the blow like a dagger through his heart; you could tell when he responded with a wincing “that’s harsh”. But hey, the guy is in jail because he’s not paying for his kids. That’s pretty damn low if you ask me so screw him if the hosts give him crap for being a dead beat. Pay for your kids! A while later, TnT got a call from a listener who said they’d give the guy the $100 to get out of jail as long as he came over to his house, scraped the old paint off and repainted his house. It was kind of a good solution to the problem. The guy would get out of jail, Todd and Tyler didn’t have give any support to a dead beat dad and one of their listeners is going to get his house painted for cheap.

TnT spent some more time today talking about the upcoming Rock-A-Thon to benefit Camp Coholo. The camp is designed to help out children with cancer and blood disorders. It’s going to be a truly great cause so make sure you keep it tuned to Z92 for details and don’t forget to make your very, very large donations this year.

Todd and Tyler will be at Mega-Mart tonight from 5-7pm in the big screen TV section. They’re helping out the Mart with a promotion of some sort. I think it’s the whole free big screen if the Huskers win bla bla bla deal again. Anyway, they’re going to be playing video football with people and watching their favorite Husker games in the background. They trolled the audience today for videos of their favorite Husker games and got all of them they were asking for. It was quite surprising because one of the games was done way back in ’76. They didn’t think they’d be able to get a video of that but some guy checked in today and said he had it on Beta and would bring it to them. So, if you’re in the area tonight, stop out and visit with TnT and buy yourself a big screen.

That’s all for today’s update. Check back here tomorrow for another one. Thanks for watching. Good night. –the Alien Guy-
