TnT Show 09-22-1999

Wednesday 9-22-99

Todd and Tyler started off their show this morning talking about wrestling. Actually, they began by saying that they were going to be giving away a Pay-Per-View for Sunday night’s 7pm wrestling event. In order for listeners to win the free Pay-Per-View, they had to call up and give their address over the air. In other words, if you wanted to see the wrestling for free, you had to invite all willing people in Omaha to your home to watch it with you. The necks started flooding the phone lines just before 7am. A large portion of the callers attempting to get the free event lived in Council Bluffs. Now TnT have never really fallen in to the “lets bash CB so Omaha will like us” mindset so they didn’t really give anyone that hard of a time; they just made sure to draw a correlation between Council Bluffs residents and wrestling fan.

After they’d received a good number of possible contestants, TnT sent Slave Boy Chris and Donnie out to the callers’ homes to inspect them. They went to Carter Lake, Council Bluffs and to several places right here in town. One caller (who sounded sincere at the time of the call) gave them an address of a “bad neighborhood”. When they got there, the only thing in the area was a “boarded up crack house”. TnT found that to be quite funny, as did I. Once they got to some of the homes that actually existed, Donnie and Chris check everything out including the toilet facilities, the cleanliness of the stove, living room space, TV size and what was in the fridge. Chris and Donnie returned towards the end of the show and announced that they had two winners. The addresses for the winners are below. If you want to attend one of the Pay-Per-View wrestling parties on Sunday night, keep in mind that it starts at 7pm. Donnie will be at both of them throughout the event so you’ll probably get to greet the neck.

Larry the Cable Guy checked in this morning and gave a commentary on the NAACP bitching about the lack of TV programs steered towards the African American community. He ranted about the WB and made a few questionably racist statements including a reference to the lack of a show titled “The Gooks of Hazard”. That’s not me saying that, those are words right out of Larry’s mouth. Speaking of Larry’s mouth, he’ll be in town next week at the Funny Bone. I believe the first show is on Tuesday night and he’ll be joining TnT in studio Wednesday morning (most likely, Thursday and Friday morning too).

Today is Travis’s 29th birthday! Happy Birthday Travis! The guys gave him a hard time about looking and acting so much older than he really is. TnT’s lawyer Michael came in studio today and delivered Travis a present. He gave him a CD titled “Chant 3”. Yep, those friggin monks! TnT played clips from the monks throughout the show. Travis said he actually liked it and that he’d be meditating to it when he got home. I guess there’s not much else to do in Casa De Trav now that the Ti-Boe hottie isn’t living in his basement anymore. Many listeners checked in throughout the show to wish Travis a happy birthday, too.

The guys talked about an Entertainment Weekly article about the 100 greatest moments of film. They went through some defining moments from the 70’s and 80’s. It was pretty interesting. At one point, Tyler read off some great movie lines and the rest of the crew had to guess the movie it was from. They did quite well until they got to the following line. “Say hello to my little friend!” Come on, Todd! “Say hello to my little friend!” is a classic line from one of the greatest movies of the past 100 years! I was very disappointed to hear that Todd wasn’t that familiar with Al Pacino’s best roll and Brian DePalma’s directorial masterpiece “SCARFACE”. Even though I was severely bummed out by the lack of coverage Scarface received in the article and the fact that Todd missed one of my most favorite lines in film, it was still a pretty interesting discussion.

Well, that’s all for the update today. Check back here tomorrow for the Thursday version. Thanks for watching. Goodnight. –the Alien Guy-
