TnT Show 09-21-2000

Thursday 9-21-00

TnT started off the show this morning with a call from their buddy Charlie. Charlie said he’d ran into a police officer in a gas station just prior to the show start and, through some conversation, heard one of the officers say he’d “like to run into those guys” (meaning Todd and Tyler). The officer was upset over TnT’s comments about the Cruze case. Anyway, Charlie ranted for a while to TnT and shortly after, one of the officers who was there called TnT to explain their side of the story. Even though the officer said he didn’t listen to TnT and preferred Christian radio, he seemed like a nice enough guy.

Todd’s going to Mexico to go fishing this weekend. TnT spent a little time talking about Todd’s trip and that lead into a huge discussion about air travel. They talked about some of their past plane trips and experiences and joked about the name of one of the planes Todd is taking, the “Air Bus”.

Early in the show, a drunk guy named Tim checked in for no reason whatsoever. He had been drinking Vodka all night and felt the urgent need to call TnT and ramble on and on about nothing at all. TnT normally don’t like to talk to drunks because they tend to swear but they kept Tim on for quite a while. It seemed Todd and Tyler were more concerned for Tim than anything else (even though they poked fun at him during the call). They asked him if he was anything other than drunk, a.k.a. all cranked up, but Tim said no. Tim then went into an unintelligible ramble about how he used to be on heroin and then moved over to methadone. TnT tossed many questions out to Tim about his personal live and seemed to be interested in helping him but Tim didn’t answer most of their inquiries. Towards the end of the call, Tim took about 5 seconds to drop the “Sh*t” bomb in which Tyler had ample time to bleep out. As the show moved on, a few more drunk guys tried to call the show but were promptly hung up on because of their swear-word happy vocabulary.

Auggie Smith from the Funny Bone came in this morning and hung out with TnT. He was very funny and seemed to enjoy his time on the show. Auggie also inspired yet another circumcised/not circumcised discussion between TnT, Travis and himself. Travis dropped the “it’s mutilation” card again and Auggie seemed to agree. All in all, no victor was determined in the argument but it was still very funny radio.

The guys got a call early in the show from a listener who said he drove through North Bend and saw “Wind Tunnel” posted on the storefront window (or something) of the wind tunnel in Donnie’s hometown. The guys thought they’d call the wind tunnel and see what everyone was talking about. Once they got an answer, a very bitchy and mean old lady answered the phone. She didn’t seem interested in talking to TnT one iota and then promptly hung up on them. That little incident spawned a very large and lengthy discussion on how small town people and the Midwest in general are always made out to be very friendly, happy, easy to talk to and wonderful in every sense of the word wonderful BUT in reality, they are backstabbing, mean, disrespectful and cliquie-ish (hyphenated because it didn’t look right without one). As the show moved on, the guys called Al of Al’s Repair in North Bend because they heard he was a nice small town man. Donnie, having known Al for some time, said he was a freak and TnT shouldn’t talk to him. Once TnT did speak with Al, however, he seemed like a very nice man. Later, they called George’s Tavern in Blair and spoke with Merle, the guy at the end of the bar. Merle, the janitor at North Bend’s high school, was incredibly cool and talked to TnT for quite a while. Todd and Tyler asked Merle if he’d be their wind tunnel correspondent and he agreed so we may be hearing from Merle in the future.

Jim Minge from the Reader came in today and talked with TnT about all of the radio show hosts they’ve run out of town sense they got here. The list was quite long and some of them, I’d even forgotten about. Anyway, Jim asked them a few other questions relating to their show as well. All of the information he collected is going to be a part of an article on local radio printed in the Reader sometime soon.

Towards the end of the show, Scottie from Husker Hounds came in and visited with TnT. With him, he brought a CD with some personalized Husker audio clips with Todd and Tyler’s names used in them. TnT played the clips on the air and they were quite funny. Such personalized CDs are available through Husker Hounds so stop on out and see Scottie. By the way, Todd and Tyler will be at the Husker Hounds West location at 132nd and Center Street in the Baker’s Square location from 6 to 8pm this evening. Stop on out and see the guys tonight!

If you want to buy Travis’s house, call his realtor at 390-6666.

I believe 5 Story Fall will join TnT tomorrow for a little musical accompaniment. The Funny Bone headliner will also come in studio and hang out. Make sure to tune in from 5:30 to 10am for another show and then check back here in the afternoon for the written update. Thanks for watching. Good night. –Corby Bender-
