TnT Show 02-20-2001

Tuesday 2-20-01

Todd and Tyler started off this morning’s show by reading some hate e-mails about their Dale Earnhardt discussion yesterday. It seems that some people took personal offence to the jokes a few callers got through with and wanted to voice their hatred towards the hosts of the show. The hate e-mails and a few phone calls poured in on the subject throughout most of the early part of today’s program. TnT seemed a bit upset at the fact that people were getting all bent out of shape about the comments people heard on the air yesterday. They argued that the same people complaining about a caller’s joke about Earnhardt’s death were most likely laughing at their “Russian Submarine” tune a few months ago. Also early in the show, TnT read a hate e-mail from a listener who complained about Donnie. TnT then banished Donnie to the phones, saying he couldn’t get on the mike. It didn’t last too long, as Donnie not only called the show with lots of his characters, but also made his way back into the studio later in the show.

Brian read a Black History quiz this morning for TnT in which the fellas tried to answer the questions correctly. Most of the questions revolved around local Black History moments/people and were quite hard. TnT answered many of them correctly but were stumped a few times as well. As discussion of Black History month continued, the guys got a few calls from listeners who had stories to share about their children and what they were being taught in regards to Black History month. Two callers said their children had to write an essay about a famous African American. TnT both agreed that the idea was great. Then, each of the callers specified which famous black person they had to write about. One was Lawrence Phillips, the other OJ Simpson. TnT freaked out, understandably, when both the callers told them who their children had to write about. They asked, I’m paraphrasing here, “What are these teachers trying to teach the kids?”

TnT and the callers went on to detail a few incidents surrounding the people teachers chose the kids to write about with what can only be described as disgust and disbelief. One child had to write an essay about an ex-football player thug who’s been kicked off every team he’s ever been on and went Spider Man up a balcony to beat on his girlfriend. The other hacked up his ex-wife and her waiter friend, lead police on a high speed chase through LA and then got away with murder because some leather gloves shrunk due to blood saturation. TnT had quite a bit to say about that but specified several times that teachers should be focusing on POSITIVE things and people in Black History.

The guys spent some time talking about Seasonal Affect Disorder this morning. Also known as “Cabin Fever”, this affliction affects countless people in the heartland who are without Sun for what seems an eternity each winter. Todd talked about how good he felt when he went on vacation to Arizona over the weekend. Tyler, too, felt good getting out of the Midwest. Granted, Pennsylvania isn’t exactly a paradise in the winter but, as Tyler put it, “I could at least see grass there.” Lots of callers checked in who also were feeling in the doldrums due to SAD. A few shared tips on how to feel better (tanning beds) while others talked about nice places they’ve been. Specifically, Caller Chris phoned in and talked with TnT about his recent trip to Mexico. I think everyone in town felt a tiny bit of hope while Chris described the paradise he had just come from. Then, in a crashing inferno of hopeless despair, the call ended and we were ripped back into the cold, dark reality of Omaha in February.

TnT spoke with Rick Harris this morning. He’s the winner of yesterday’s Vegas Trip. TnT phoned him to do a “coolness check”. Rick seemed to pass and even joked about Todd’s noxious anal odors and how he hopes they don’t reappear on the Vegas plane ride. Rick said he’s a Vegas virgin and plans to take his wife with him. After their conversation, TnT played today’s Vegas movie clip and spent some time talking about the movie.

Todd and Tyler spoke with Ben Jones this morning. Ben played Cooter on the “Dukes of Hazzard” television show years ago and later went on to serve two terms as a Congressman from Virginia. TnT spent a little time talking about the issues surrounding the controversial rebel flag and then went on to discuss Ben’s acting career, which included cut scenes in “Meet Joe Black” with Anthony Hopkins and Brad Pitt as well as a role in “Primary Colors” with John Travolta. TnT also talked with Ben about the restaurant/store he’s opened up called Cooter’s Place somewhere in the mountains of Virginia. You can visit the web site for the restaurant at http://www.cootersplace.com” target=blank>www.cootersplace.com. The interview with Cooter was surprisingly interesting. I’ll admit that when I first heard TnT would be talking to Cooter from “The Dukes of Hazzard”, I thought the interview was set up by Donnie as a totally self-serving childhood fantasy come true for him. In reality, it actually turned out to be very interesting and fun to listen to. Donnie, sorry I doubted the neck.

Comedian/actor Walt Willy phoned TnT today to promote his upcoming visit to the Funny Bone. He plays some soap opera guy on daytime TV and tours the country with a comedy routine as well. He’ll be in town for shows on Friday and Saturday night. I believe if scheduling works out, he’ll also be joining TnT in studio on Friday morning.

Well, TnT got another call from everyone’s favorite bi-polar whack job (allegedly) Bill today. Bill yelled at TnT as he always does and then threatened to protest the Z92 building and Todd and Tyler studio with his “abortion buddies” (what??). Bill, once again, called the guys “devils”. Today, however, Bill had a treat for us all. He did his imitation of what he believes the Todd and Tyler show is. Well, Bill’s imitation consisted of him yelling, “Diekman, Diekman, Diekman. Butt sex, Butt sex, Butt sex. Let’s go to commercial.” As you can imagine, Donnie was quick to isolate that particular piece of audio from Bill and it became the commercial lead-in sound effect for the remainder of the show. I laughed so hard at the audio clip but even harder at the fact that Donnie had the clip ready in less than 2 minutes. It was as if Donnie has been waiting for Bill to say something like that for weeks. I’m sure you’ll be hearing it from here on out.

Towards the end of the show, TnT had a conversation with the secretary for the West Harrison High School. The guys spent some time running smack about the upcoming dodge ball game taking place on Thursday evening. The secretary tossed some smack back at them and then put TnT on the phone with the big guy, Pickle Boy (a.k.a. the principal). He spent some time informing TnT of their upcoming demise while TnT rebutted by pointing out that his team looked weak. You can view their team on the West Harrison High School web site by http://www.w-harrison.k12.ia.us/Dodg...ournament.htm” target=blank>clicking here. Listen tomorrow for the pinnacle of smack and Dodge Ball preparation.

Well, that’s the update for Tuesday. Check back here tomorrow for the Wednesday version. Thanks for watching. Good night. –Corby-
