Tuesday 5-1-01

Todd and Tyler started off this morning’s show discussing a variety of topics. Last night’s television coverage of the weather was one of the many things touched on by TnT. As we’re all aware, local TV stations and their weathermen have been interrupting our evening TV viewing for as long as anyone can remember. Now, however, with new computer technology, TnT seem to have come to the conclusion that things are totally out of control. Todd and Tyler discussed the various graphics that were used last night which included, at one point, the following graphics:

• A map of the viewing area
  
• the local TV station’s layover graphic for whatever storm is in the area
  
• the local TV station’s layover identification graphic (IE a 3, 6 or 7)
  
• the national station’s graphic layover (IE a peacock or eye and so on)
  
• the scroll at the bottom of the screen with notices of a cloud spotting 70 miles away
  
• shrinkage of the viewing area of the screen.
  

TnT estimated that nearly ¼ of their screen was covered up by weather information which made viewing last night’s normal television broadcasts unbearable. They took a few calls to discuss this and then moved on but I’m sure we’ll be talking about it again as there are more storms in the forecast for this evening…and it’s NYPD Blue night tonight.

Brian came in and did the news for Todd and Tyler which included yet another “baby gets eaten by a dog” happy story from the news chick. The guys spent some time discussing various items from Brian’s newscast and took a few more calls.

TnT announced yesterday’s qualifier for the Car Tune of the Day contest and then played this morning’s Car Tune. Keep listening daily for details of the contest and your chance to win. At one point in today’s show, Todd casually asked whether or not ”magic mushrooms” grew around this part of the world. He recalled his days in the Pacific Northwest where the mushrooms grew like wildfire and was curious if such mushrooms could grow here. Several callers checked in and informed Todd that those sort of mushrooms do indeed grow here in the Midwest but they normally sprout out of gnarly heaps of cow dung. One caller went so far as to tell Todd such mushrooms could be obtained for a mere $10 per gram.

A majority of this morning’s show seemed like a joyful jaunt down History Lane. The computer tech heads in TnT’s office asked the guys to go through their sound effect library and eliminate some of the old clips they don’t need or want in order to make more room in their computer system. TnT spent time speculating about the real reasons behind the decision to clean old effects and concluded that the tech heads were simply trying to create some job security for themselves.

As the morning went on, TnT played countless clips from old shows that had been saved and created for use at various times. There were a few scattered clips here and there that were no longer relevant due to dated material but for the most part, Todd and Tyler wanted to keep all of the clips they played. It was rather funny to hear some of the old complain calls being replayed prompting a few listeners of this morning’s show to check in and bitch about the complainers, not realizing the clips were old. Also, TnT got a surprising number of requests for them to play old bits, song clips and hate calls that have gone unaired for some time.

Well, that’s about it for today’s update. The guys may continue with the Keep it or Delete it old bit plan for tomorrow’s show, they’ll announce a new Car Tune of the day and you never know what else will come up so make sure to tune in. Thanks for watching. Good night. –Corby-
