TnT Show 05-14-2001

Monday 5-14-01

Todd and Tyler started off their show this morning discussing the “Wingspan” documentary that aired on Friday night. They’d both forgotten how popular Wings was back in the 70’s and commented on how, after seeing the documentary, Linda might have gotten a bad wrap for her singing voice. The guys said she really wasn’t that bad after all but everyone thinks she is because of the famous isolated audio of her butchering one of Paul’s songs. Tyler picked up the CD over the weekend and played various Wings tunes as bumper music through most of the show.

Mayoral candidate Mike Fahey stopped by the show again this morning for a surprise visit. He didn’t spend too much time with TnT because of his very busy schedule but he did talk briefly with the guys about the final few days of the mayoral race. The election is tomorrow so feel free to vote.

Also relating to the election, Tyler mentioned he’d received a flyer or something from the Metro Right To Life group that urged him not to vote for either of the city council members in his district. The group, purely a single-issue organization, must have left their phone number on the flyer because Todd and Tyler phoned them this morning. Unfortunately, the guys couldn’t get a hold of a live person so they went ahead and left a message on the machine. Basically, they guys went off on how the city council has nothing to do with the abortion issue and the fact that local government can’t make policies relating to abortions because they’ll be shot down by higher courts. They questioned them as to who they expected them to vote for if their organization wouldn’t support either of the two possible candidates. After they hung up, they phoned the machine back and played their “Christmas at the Carhart’s” audio clip.

Tyler had read an article over the weekend in which compared television shows and the incomes of the normal viewer of the shows. At the top of the list were programs such as “The West Wing”, “Frasier” and “60 Minutes” which had normal viewers with the highest incomes. At the bottom of the list ranked “WWF Smack Down”. Both Todd and Tyler got a huge kick out of that. Even Donnie seemed amused. The guys spent a good portion of today’s show talking about the article and taking calls. TnT opened up the phone lines and took calls fro wrestling fans about their personal incomes. They wanted to find a wrestling fan with the highest income and started off by setting the bar at $30,000. After a while they were able to get up to $70,000 when a lawyer phoned the show. That lawyer, however, admitted to being a pretty bad lawyer and therefore didn’t really seem to count in TnT’s statistics. After that call, they weren’t able to find a wrestling fan that made more than $70,000.

TnT spoke with Channel 6 meteorologist Jeff Jenson this morning. They guys talked with him about the TV storm interruptions they’ve been discussing for the past few weeks. Jeff did his best to explain the reason things are the way they are but there was no convincing Todd and Tyler, and rightfully so. The guys admitted that tornados are important and people should know about them but tried to point out to Jeff that no one cares about a thunder storm warning issued from Denver or Sioux Falls for a county that’s no where near the TV station’s viewing area. Before the end of the conversation, TnT demanded that Channel 6 not interrupt the final episode of “The West Wing” with storm warnings this week. Jeff said he’d see what he could do but considering that night is his night off, it’s most likely that nothing would get done.

Bob Nelson from the Funny Bone came in studio today and hung out for a while. He joined in on the topics of the day and spent some time talking about his career, his act and his family. Bob didn’t really say too much, however. He actually seemed a little reserved around Todd and Tyler. His stage act is a bit different, however. He’s really a pretty funny guy. Bob is appearing at the Bone for a special engagement show tonight only. Catch him at the Bone at 7:30pm. Call 493-8036 for reservations.

Todd and Tyler got into their annual Mother’s Day argument again this morning. In past years, Tyler has argued that Todd and Donnie should get their ex’s a gift or card on behalf of the kids just to thank their ex for being the mother of their children. Todd and Donnie, on the other hand, both argued that there was no way they were going to do that for their ex’s and that if the kids wanted to give their mother’s something, they could make a gift or color a card or do something along those lines. They themselves had no reason to thank their ex-wives for anything.

Well, the argument picked up again this morning right where it has left off for the past two or three years. Tyler asked Todd and Donnie if they got anything for their ex-wives to thank them for giving them such great kids. Both Todd and Donnie said no. From there the whole discussion about the various dynamics of Mother’s Day in a divorced situation came about again and no one had changed their opinions from previous years.

As the conversation continued, the guys took quite a few phone calls from listeners who had stories to relate about their ex wives and ex husbands. Also, the “Inside Rule” was created by Donnie and Todd to alleviate the responsibility of having to do something for their ex wives on Mother’s Day. Basically, the Inside Rule states that if you were the last one to be inside the woman or be engulfed in one way or another by her, you take on the responsibility of making sure the kids do something nice for their mother. This rule would then let Todd and Donnie off the hook with having to provide a Mother’s Day gift for the women they obviously don’t care too much for. It was a pretty funny discussion and just the concept of the Inside Rule and its creation today was enough to put this morning’s show in the history books.

One interesting moment in today’s show relating to the Mother’s Day topic came about when Travis was asked what he did for Mother’s Day. Travis said that on the way home from his parents, he took his wife by the hand, said she was a great mom and then uttered, “Keep it up.” That’s right! Travis gave his wife an “attaboy” for Mother’s Day. Well, as you can imagine, Todd, Tyler, Donnie and a lot of callers who checked in after that had a ball giving Attaboy Travis hell. Attaboy Travis never ceases to amaze me.

Todd and Tyler wrapped up today’s show by sticking Big Pussy and comedian Bob Nelson in Tyler’s Mazda Miata. Both men are pretty large and TnT wanted to see how funny it would be to squeeze two big dudes into the little car. It was a pretty funny mental picture.

Well, that’s the Monday update. Check back here tomorrow for the Tuesday version. Thanks for watching. Good night. -Corby-
