TnT Show 05-15-2001

Tuesday 5-15-01

The show started off this morning with Donnie beating up a cell phone with a sack full of bread. It was rather an odd way to start the show but it was pretty funny considering the mental image it left me with. After he’d finished, Todd brought out a sack full of gifts for everyone. He’d recently stopped at several vending machines around town and got himself a bunch of Trouble Bubble-looking trinket balls filled with various NFL related items, namely mugs and key chains. The guys went through the bag and decided whom they knew that would like each of the mugs and key chains based upon the team’s logo on each.

To attempt to get some better audio out of the cell phone abuse bit Donnie had tried at the beginning of the show, Donnie took the same cell phone out and tied it to the bumper of his truck. He then drug it along the ground for a while. Later, he strapped it to a drum in which Joe from Blue House beat feverishly. Donnie also tossed the phone off the roof. The phone seemed to survive all of the brutality.

An early morning discussion about littering came up during Brian’s newscast. Brian related a story about how he was mowing and joking and mowing and joking yesterday at his mother’s café when he saw a hogasaurus toss some trash into the parking lot he’d just spent 20 minutes cleaning up. He stared at her but she didn’t do anything about her litter. The guys then got into a lengthy discussion over littering in general. No one could seem to understand how an adult can just throw trash out with no regard to his or her surroundings. Brian also told a story about catching a litterer in the act years ago when his wife used to let him work on the TV. He approached the person, said he’d been video taping them and was going to put them on TV. Of course, he wasn’t really taping the person but did scare her into picking up a little bit of the trash. The guys then took some calls on the subject for a while.

Donnie and some of the other members of the OWA are going to a school this afternoon to talk to the DARE kids and teach them the dangers of backyard wrestling. When Todd and Tyler found that out, they were pretty amused. First off, Donnie was the king of Creatine poop and Ephedrine for months. He shouldn’t be talking in front of DARE students. Secondly, Donnie and his OWA buddies are going to talk about how bad backyard wrestling is when, in reality, they’re doing just that in the OWA. The guys rode Donnie pretty hard about it throughout the show. TnT also took a call from Abu, one of the bigger OWA guys. Abu joked around about kicking the guy’s collective asses but Todd and Tyler didn’t seem scared. It was pretty funny hearing Tyler tell a very large, angry black man that he could kick his ass.

TnT spent some more time discussing the weather coverage on television again this morning. They have been worried for some time that the election and weather reporting is going to interfere with tonight’s season finale of “Frasier” and possibly the “NYPD Blue” episode. They have heard from several listeners that they heard the news reporters say they would be airing the shows uninterrupted or in their entirety but didn’t believe it. They also read an e-mailed reply they got from someone who wrote to one of the news stations. The letter from the television station tried to justify their interruptions and weather coverage but didn’t do a very good job. It also seemed to have a condescending tone to it and made reference to the original author’s complaints being spawned by things that “a local radio show” says.

TnT spoke with Scott Pelli from “60 Minutes Two” today about a special CBS is airing tonight at 8pm. The story is going to be about train derailments nationwide and how a majority of them are being caused by poorly built or out of shape rail tracks. Featured in the story will be the recent Valley train crash in which 51 cars ended up on the ground spewing countless tennis balls and fake Harley jackets into Rumpy’s yard. It should be pretty interesting so if you’re not a Frasier fan, or you’re over 80 like 99.99% of the people who watch CBS programming, feel free to tune in.

Officer Meg Fricky from the Omaha Police Department phoned TnT today and spoke with them about National Police Memorial Day. She talked with the guys about various aspects of the memorial and then told TnT she was calling from her garage wearing only underwear. Meg invited them to a ceremony downtown in which they were going to honor officers who died in the line of duty. I believe the celebration will be over by the time I get this update posted.

Towards the end of the show, TnT got into a discussion about a threat they had yesterday. Someone from a particular local area football league got upset with the guys and threatened to beat up Tyler, or perhaps both Todd and Tyler. They talked about the issue for a while but didn’t get into too much detail, obviously trying to avoid any legal troubles. As the conversation continued, the guys spent some time talking about the “I’ll beat you up” phenomenon that they say they’ve only had to deal with here in Omaha.

Well, that’s the update for Tuesday. Check back tomorrow for the Wednesday version. Thanks for watching. Good night. –Corby-
